  1. Got some nice daytime pics of this big boy checking cams and hanging stands yesterday.
  2. I do not hunt with a crossbow, but my father is to the point where he has trouble pulling back on a compound. If he could hunt with me fulltime during all archery season, I am all for it. He has a crossbow and I shot it the other day to practice. I get why people like them, but I am much more happy shooting my compound. Also, they seem awfully loud. I can see a lot of high shots on does when they jump that loud string, especially from the 50 yards that people will be lobbing bolts at thinking they can take Superman shots.
  3. Me and a few buddies are looking to lease some land for the 2016 hunting season in or around WNY. I like the Attica area (lots of farmland and woods) and am wondering if anyone knows of anything that may become available. Looking for at least 150 acres. Thanks
  4. Wow, this site really beat up on this guy. Quick to call him uneducated and blast him for breaking the law. He knew what he was talking about, yet certain people were so quick to get on their "holier than thou" kick. Waiting with popcorn see all the apologies come back to this guy, but I suspect certain people will just wait and look for someone else to "break the law".
  5. Hunted public land today. Already took a buck earlier so I am in the middle of the rut hunting doe. Go figure. Great day in the woods. Walk in at dark, kick a deer out. Not sure what it was, sounded heavy. 8am, 6 point comes walking into scent drag, turns and I grunt him back (trying for pics), winds me and takes off. 11am big bodied 4 comes in on the same line as I am unknocking my arrow. Again, try to get pic, but he catches me moving and jogs off to about 40 yards where he proceeds to snort wheeze as loud as possible. Get down at noon, go to the car and eat some lunch. Head back in further at 2pm. 4pm comes and I catch movement behind me. Low and behold here comes the biggest buck I have ever laid my eyes on!! Comes in 10 minutes after I squirted some Tinks 69 from the can about 20 feet in my stand downwind. Works his way to about 40 yards. Have my bow in my hand because for awhile I was not sure the sex. Knowing I could not shoot him, I am still shaking uncontrollably. Go for my phone for pics and video, but he is a wise old man and meanders away slowly. Never got a pic He was a 10 point with about 12 inch G2'S. Perfect symmetrical rack. Deer of a lifetime. I think I peed a little when I really got a good look at him. On way out right before dark, I kick out a huge doe and she comes running straight at me. Full sprint till about 10 yards. She sees me and stops on a dime and turns back and hauls ass the exact way she came! I thought she was going to plow me over! Morel of story, when your buck tag is filled and you are looking for doe, you will see lotsa buck and a trophy lifetime buck and no shots on doe. All in all, I believe based what I witnessed the rut is kicking off and hunters need to be in the woods all day long. Best hunt I ever had without shooting a deer. Met some hunters (Phil and Jason) today and they seemed like stand up guys. If you are members on this site, you will know this is Marty posting. Good luck to all. Welcome to the rut!!
  6. I also just recently mounted a Third Hand Archery Universal bow holder on my climber. I use a Lone Wolf hand climber and mounted it on the seat. It is in perfect position to quietly and easily grab the bow when you need to. Very easy to mount also.
  7. Not to really get on you, but why would you take a dead on front shot with a bow? Lot of things can happen to that arrow from the front and it is a long way to the vitals if you can even get there. Did you knot have a chance to let the deer turn left or right or walk past you so it would quarter away? I really hope you find this deer, but I also hope you don't take shots like that in the future. You can get away with it with a gun, but not without a little luck with an arrow.
  8. I would let her go. For some reason it just doesn't seem right.
  9. Good to hear from someone else hunting there. I have seen a few deer this season. Hunting it hard. I am in your neck of the woods in NT. If you need any info on conditions or anything, let me know. This is my first year hunting it, but I have done a lot of pre season scouting...
