I've hiked Pisgah NF extensively, along with many of the others on your list. Along with about 200 miles of the AT. But I have to say, I've met up with more "off the grid" people, in my travels to NYC, and other large cities, than I ever have in the backwoods. Not to say, I've never met any "characters" while in the backwoods south, I certainly have. But that is part of the allure for me, not a deterrent. I identify more with backwoods than big city.

I have loved the Duplex reticles on the Leupolds for a long time. Have that reticle on my Zeiss Conquest too.

Would love to have you as a neighbor some day!!! And my door will always be open to you for a visit!

I carried a couple home from Mendon last year!......lol I noticed a few on my buck from last week. But not as many as I've seen on deer in the past. Have not found one on me this year either. But I was really strict about keeping everything treated with Sawyers.

Five more years and I'll retire. The grandkids will be off on their own. MIL is 85 and will most likely be joined with my FIL then. I'm looking at some property outside Brevard NC. (not too far from Ashville) At the foot of the Smokies. Will still have four seasons, and even "some" snow. But I'll be seeing green grass in March, and winter won't be five months long there. Some great hunting and fishing in the area. Gun laws are sensible, and taxes are about half of what we pay here. I did a lot of hiking and exploring in this area, when I lived in Charleston SC in my younger days. I still have friends there. This is where my bones will lie. My lifelong friend is thinking about coming too. He retires next year. I grew up here. There is a lot that binds me to this place. But the liberals and taxes are pushing me out.

Farm property just got 8+ inches of heavy wet snow today. Will make it a bit tougher on me to slog through the thickets, trying to get a deer to my partner, and grandson this weekend. You guys still out there giving all ya got, are the REAL hunters on this forum!!! Hang in there! Take a break if need be. Never give up! You are truly inspiring!- 10374 replies

I gotta agree with ya Rob. This has been the worst weather, hunting season, I can remember in a long time. From mid September, to now, rain and more rain, wind gusts over 50mph, snow piling up, with some ice thrown in too. This has certainly added a challenge to the hunt this year. At least it has on our properties, by flooding out some traditional bedding and feeding areas. Forcing the deer, and us, to constantly adjust to the ever changing conditions. After deer season, we like to predator hunt. That will be very difficult if the snow really piles up! Nothing we can do about the weather. Enjoy it when it's good. Grin and bare it, when it's not. Right now, it looks to be a LONG winter.......

You will be fine to cut em up tomorrow. You've taken good care of the meat! Enjoy the fine table fare, and congratulations on the deer! You did good man!

Welcome! Saw the nice buck you posted in another thread, way to go! A bunch of great guys from that area on here.

I think the dates on the tag, need to match up with the report? If for any reason, they should check. (highly unlikely)

Better late than not at all. I have not heard of any problems with late reports. Did mine online for the first time last week. So easy.

With each passing year, a set up like this becomes more and more appealing to me! I can even envision a couple great spots where I'd put it! Picked up three hub blinds this year, and with the weather we've had this season, I was glad I did. Saw deer out of all of them too. By the looks of your set up John, it was worth every penny! Especially when taking out the young hunters! Wonder if I can get a recliner in there???.......- 10374 replies

Now THAT is impressive!!! To have actually been with a hunter like this, is quite an honor Dan! Kinda puts Lee and Tiffany, or any of the "celebrity" hunters in perspective. This guy is the real deal. Thanks for sharing this.

Looks like some blood forward of the tracks. Could be from nose and mouth, indicating a lung/liver hit like you think. If you have that many coyotes close by, he won't last long. Go in easy after three hours. If blood increases, go easier but a little farther. If blood decreases, or you bump him, back out and give him another three hours. Good luck. I think you will find him.- 10374 replies
