  1. Thanks. And you'll be welcome anytime. Will post pic's when we get them.
  2. He is nice now. Just think how big he will be next year! Just nine and a half months to go!
  3. We are long time hunters. Just new to calling coyotes.
  4. This is all on private land. And we want to go out in the early morning or late afternoon to get started. As we gain experience we will move to night hunting.
  5. We have lots of coyotes! So the first couple hunts will be pretty easy I think. The learning curve will start once they catch on to us. I think it will be fun to do and learn. Just got a electronic call , a motion decoy and learning a couple mouth calls. If you get to our neck of the woods, moog, you are more than welcome to come along!
  6. We are all set to start calling yote's right after Christmas. This will be our first year calling. I assume my 7mm-08 deer hunting gun will work just fine for coyotes.
  7. It only takes a little to help someone who is down. To gain a lot.
  8. My contribution, sent out today. Keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers this Holiday season.
  9. The 10-22 was made to be a workhorse hunting gun. I don't have any case queens. All my guns get used for what they were intended. Every scratch and ding tells a story. Wouldn't have it any other way.
  10. Hoping to have a Field and Stream store in the capital district some time next year! Never been in one, but I hear lots of positive things about them.
  11. Nothing like waiting until the last day! You procrastinator! J.K. Beautiful buck! Congratulations!!
  12. Welcome! Glad you and your wife have joined us, hunting NY. Lots of good hunters here to learn from.
  13. The first two picks looks like a one year old with the long legs and compact body. The third pic looks a lot older almost like a different deer. In that pic his chest is wide and legs look shorter. His body in that pic is filled out and I'm guessing a three year old. But since it is the same deer I'll split the difference and call it a two year old. I'm never right aging pic's of deer so what do I know!....lol

    New Guy

Welcome and glad you decided to stop by. Pretty good bunch of hunters here. Just pull up a seat and join right in anytime!
  15. Kicked up quite a few during deer season this year. Always puts my heart in my throat when they flush unexpectedly. Even had one put on a strut show back in October, bow hunting.
  16. Gotta say that even if it snows to beat the band, after Christmas or New Years, it will seem to be a much shorter winter. The years where we have snow on the ground from late October or early November seem endless. I do enjoy snowshoeing and icefishing, but no complaints from me, about the weather so far this year!
  17. On December 14th.! Kind of crazy but I could probably mow! Just an observation, not a complaint.
  18. You and Luna as a team were awesome this year! Being only the first year, you both showed abilities way above what was expected. Only going to get better from here, you should be very proud of what you've accomplished. Thank you and congratulations for a great tracking season!
  19. Would rather be warm and not see deer as to freezing my butt off and not see deer.
  20. A little more front body mass than a two year old and a lot less than a four year old. So, three year old.
  21. On our properties, the deer never left. They were there the whole time. But we saw very little daytime deer movement. My opinion for less deer sightings this year are, warmer than normal daytime temps kept movement down, until night time. There was a bounty of food this fall and they didn't need to travel far to get it. They stayed in the thickest, nastiest cover, where it was cooler, and felt more secure, with food nearby. A trickle of rutting activity spaced out from mid October to now. No frenzy of concentrated rut activity to really get them on their feet and running, during the first couple of weeks of November. We saw fresh rubs and scrapes all season, made mostly at night, but no concentrated rutting activity. One activity that has increased big time for us, was coyote activity! We had PACKS of them calling most every night and even during the day on occasions. We will be targeting them this winter to cut down on the huge number of yote's. My opinion is it was a combination of a few different things that led to low deer sightings in our area this year. But the deer were there!
  22. I just found my new project for basement shooting in the winter! This looks awesome! Thanks Deerthug!
  23. Welcome to the forum and to the brotherhood of hunting! You had one heck of a first season! Congratulations! I have known hunters, that hunted their whole lives and never shot a buck like that. And to share time in the woods with your son, will make memories that will last a lifetime. Wishing you continued successful deer seasons with friends and family.
