That would be great! From what I've heard they are a pretty good store.

Not a fitting end to a magnificent animal. Too bad the kings rein came to such a conclusion.

LIVE from the woods 2015 Edition! - Sixth Year Going Strong

Way to go! Congratulations! -
Minimum of 100 acres of corn and alfalfa. 20 to 30 cords of firewood cut each year. 150 acres of hay cut each year. Pasture 30 to 40 cows in the summer. This is a working 500 acre farm! And we have have killed mature bucks from here this year. As most years. Just saying, not as many seen the last couple of years. I'll let the experts sort it all out!

Very well said! I have been hunting a property for over 40 years, and this is the least amount of deer seen in that time.

X-3....Great choice. My 11 and 13 year old grandsons have no problem shooting my 7mm-08.

Congrats and way to hang in there and get it done in late season! -
I agree. I'm kind of funny, in that I "HAVE" to know where my gun shoots at a given distance before I can hunt or shoot that distance at a deer. Maybe I just over think things too much.

What an awesome first deer! Congratulations sent to your son!

LOL!

Old age? Perhaps her teeth were worn down to where she could no longer chew her food?

Can't remember the last time we went an entire deer season with no snow at all. The coldest morning sit this year was in the high teens. And to be honest, I kinda liked it!

Remington, Ruger, or Savage?
grampy replied to Steuben Jerry's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I am in no way an expert on rifles. But I do have a Savage Axis in 7mm-08 that I was given for Christmas last year. This is my first rifle and I did do a little trigger work and replaced the scope with better glass. Shot a lot with it all summer and it is a very accurate gun. From a lead sled I can get sub one inch clover leafs at 100 yards, and don't consider myself to be a great shot. I shoot Federal Nosler BT in 140 grains but just about anything I ran through it shot well. I'm super happy with it for deer hunting. For the money and a couple small upgrades it's perfect for me. Got my first rifle kill with it this season as well! I'm sure the Ruger and Rem are good as well but I have never shot either of them. -
Really nice buck! Congratulations! Way to hang in there and get it done!

TC Thunderhawk, shooting 240 grain hornady sabot, 100 grains of pyrodex pellets. #11 caps to ignite. Bushnell 3x9x40 . Will shoot sub 2 inch group at 100 yards.

Easier to just hang a picture of a beautifully decorated tree.

Cool to see late season deer killed. Congrats!! -
At least the film crew was honest. I understand how mistakes can happen. But trying to cover it up and pre-dating tags is BS. And it doesn't matter who it is.

Loved this thread last year. Look forward to following it this winter! Thanks!

LOL!!! Almost snarked coffee all over!

I'm thinking less hunters = less shots = less incidences. Also I think hunters using rifles are less likely to spray and pray. But whatever the reason, hoping this will be the safest season on record. And also hoping the trend continues.

Twice in my years of hunting, I have killed a nice buck on the last day of the season. And have seen top end bucks for my area, late in the season quite a few times. I saw a pretty good one Sunday afternoon, about 150 yards out, walking a field edge, along thick cover. But have no buck tag. With so many other things going on at this time of the year, it can be tough to stay motivated and make time to be in the woods. But I will tell you, it can and does pay off big time to hunt late season! Best of luck and keep at it, all you can until it's over!

Going to the farm, Saturday and Sunday to help try and put a couple does in the freezer, for my hunting partner. Saw a real nice buck yesterday, but no buck tag.
