    Guess i'll take out my Savage Model 99 in 300 sav with a old 4 power weaver scope. then i'll switch to my Winchester Model 94 in 3030 with peep site, I've had this gun for a few years now but haven't harvested a deer with it yet.

    Of all my big game rifles it would be my Savage model 99 chambered in 300savage. Just love that old light weight gun. My dad bought it in the early 1960's and he never shot a deer with it, He gave it to me about 6 years ago and I've shot 5 deer with it so far.

    I know were you are talking about and I from WNY. Oh wait our camp is up in Woodgate. Nice buck congrats. I've only have had to hunt up there a couple times a year and have only harvested two bucks, But retiring this June so hopefully should be getting more time there.

    Got it done in NW 8J this morning using my old Savage lever Model 99 chambered in 300 Savage. Time to switch to another gun and look for a good buck to harvest.

    We use to hunt Allegany State Park back in the late 70's early 80's. Always rented a cabin on the McIntosh trail. We would harvest a couple doe every year and a buck or two every couple years. only allowed 3 shots and a shotgun only rule. They were all smooth bore then! Oh what fun. I wondered a couple years back how the park is doing for hunting. Should think about making a summer vacation back there and do a little scouting for a bow hunt.

    Well can't say it's been a bad year. A lot better then last year, of the 3 in the family that hunt we only managed to harvest 2 buck, and didn't even get a shot on any doe. I personally hunted up to the last minute today. Must say it was been a pleasure reading all the topics on the website and can't wait to next year. See ya all like next july, august when we start seeing some trail cam pics.

    My son shot this one this morning in NW 8J. Started raining decided to get down and still hunt and shot him at 30yds in it bed.

    Got I done today in NW 8J with my Savage Model 99 chambered in 300savage. A nice 7 pt, when I saw him from my tree stand and knew he wasn't coming my way I had to get down got low and behind him and waited till he came back out of the thicket. That was about 4:20 got him dressed and dragged him through about 12" of snow about a 1/2 mile out to the closest road and called my brother to come pick me up. Better then last year when I didn't even get a chance to raise my gun at anything.

    Every year my Savage model 99 in 300 savage, after I get my first deer with that then to one of my other 4 guns.

    Private 300 sav, after I shoot my first deer then the 6mm or 30-30 or 20ga.

    I have two lever guns, my favorite is the Savage model 99 in 300sav, with an old weaver 4 power scope. The other is my Winchester 94 in 30-30 with a peep on it. Haven't pulled the trigger on a deer with the Winchester yet put will keep trying.

    Interesting thread, When I tell other hunters, especially the younger generation that my caliber is a 300savage. They all think i'm wrong and it's called a 300 Win Mag!! Just Love my old guns and calibers.

    My neighbor told me the other day that he came home late one night and there were 15 deer feeding around his apple tree.

    My coworker owns a hunting camp in Northern Stubben Co. He hasn't been happy all bow or gun season. Not seeing anything, wanting to give up. We talked him into buying a smoke pole last week. Sighted it in and he invited a couple of us to his camp this weekend, Hunted a little yesterday and saw some tails. This morning mother nature gave us what we've all been asking for with some good snow cover. We made plans for the morning and went out a first light. As I was heading to a stand down at the bottom of a hill I kicked up some deer heading to the new smoke pole owner. After about 5 minutes I heard the shot and I will just say he was one happy hunter with a nice 1.5 yr doe. I kept telling him the season isn't over with till the sunset on the closing day of what ever season you are hunting. Don't ever give up.

    NW8J still quiet, just no body out shooting in my area, and you hear a shot once in a while off in the distance. Ok though I have until Dec 22 to shoot one.

    Well it been a tough year gun hunting this year in NW8J, There is still about 80acres of standing corn behind the woods, Between the 3 of us we only managed to harvest 2 deer, and maybe only saw 7 altogether. Just haven't seen any deer this year. Every year we usually see deer all season long, not this year. Will get the muzzleloader out and see what happens.

    They finally started combining corn today in my area NW8J. So I headed for one of my treestands and at 4:05pm I connected on my first deer of the season a 1.5yr old doe, 150yds out, using my old Savage Model 99 chambered in 300 savage, with an old Weaver 4power scope. One shot through the heart went about 35yds, Meat in the freezer.

    My first sighting of deer tonight, NW8J My neighbor lady was out back on her property walking her dogs by the swamp. She turned around and went back to close her horse fence, and about 10-12 deer came out of the swamp. Instead of coming my way they took off across the road and were gone. Finally good to see action.

    Saw 6 flat tops on the way out tonight in NW 8J. Lets see what happens tomorrow, I'm off all week.

    After hunting all week, northwest 8J, yesterday I saw my first deer. Five of them all at about 200yds and before legal sunrise. We have many acres of standing corn up in my area this year. Little shooting going on and deer hiding in cornfields. Not too worried yet though.

    When on public or private land not every person is a hunter. There could be bird watchers out, or a farmer out walking his field, who at this time of year is must likely wearing Carhartt clothing. These people have that right. It is not mandatory to wear orange. So know your target and beyond. I've been hunting for 39 years. Starting hunting on the family farm, then for 6 straight years went on public land in Allegany State Park, our land in the Adirondacks. Never had I not known my target and beyond.
