That article is about as bad as it gets. It really is THAT bad. Wisconsin. One of the proverbial juggernauts of whitetail deer hunting. Give me a break. From the article: As deer season approaches (or is already open in many states) we’ve all read about the “best” states for chasing whitetails. States like Kansas, Iowa, Kentucky, Wisconsin, and Indiana consistently produce large numbers of trophy deer. Then: 9) Wisconsin Wisconsin is arguably one of the best states in the nation for chasing big whitetails. Over the years many record book deer have come from this great state. 54% of the bucks killed in 2013 were yearlings, however, and this combined with low temps and large amounts of snow earn Wisconsin a spot on our list.

I always forget, but are ECOs funded by the general fund? Either way, a ML season shouldn't be taken lightly. They've been paving this road for a while and it's one that to me is just shaping up because they keep issuing DMPs. To me, if a ML anterless was warranted, there should be added research that goes into it above and beyond the standard. We're talking about a specific season to target anterless to control population in a localized (wmu specific) area. It doesn't take much to throw the balance off. With the impact the DEC had with the debacle of "increasing DMPS" to the point the statewide herd numbers drastically reduced, taking 5-10 years to get ballpark back to norm, it only demands increased monitoring and justification. Justification doesn't come from the % of tags filled. It comes from much more detailed census work. WMUs slated for the antlerless season should be given the check station requirement for the prior year. More money? Yes. More admin? Yes. Worth not screwing up the herd balance with facts? Yes.

That has been proven. Just look back ten years...same system.

It's coming. Better get used to it. Problem is I think they're going to base this off of their system, which has proven to hamstring the state's population once already. That is the part that really concerns me. Not just about messing up the season...messing up the future next 5-10 years with a mistake like that.

manure sprayed fields are either a god send of a curse. They are an instant funnel creator in some instances. In others...they make surrounded woodlots (ie sprayed fields all the way around) a freaking desert for deer. Just for levity sake, I have tons of bucks at one parcel. More since the velvet coming off. Scrapes, rubs, sparring, attitude, you name it. 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5. Nothing earth shattering, but lots of activity there. Other parcels are more of a sit and wait it out until we hunt it to see the activity.

Lightfield Slugs...they key to the barrel. If you don't want to spend that money, Federal Truball without a question...they dirty a barrel up fast, but shoot well for the cost.

Salary vs hourly is different. Plus its an at will state. Email to cell phones are hellish for off hours.

Nice Kentucky buck shot a few weeks ago by an acquaintance.

I'm sure those with kids and the $350 will have no sympathy for you with the $0 check. I love mutual respect!

Take some electrical tape and wrap a layer around the spirals to prevent them from digging into the clear coat. Minor deal...I didn't do that with mine because I'm mostly a function person (i'm beautiful enough) over form. It's not a huge mark, but cramming it into pockets over time can sometimes lead to a scratch on the laminate finish.

I know there are some capital area hunters here. Someone step up!

Oct 1, 2012. 72 degrees and sun, 6.5 y/o via deer lab. People talk themselves out of success sometimes.

GMAP4 overlays topo and aerial...best of both worlds.

Benefactor from the situation, not the value he provided.

I chose to marry someone with a kid. Much less fun at the onset.

Scratching college checks ain't fun, trust me.

Man I just missed this on all freaking fronts, lol. Had a kid who was 18 and one -16 days in 2012. Argh. I would love have some of my money back.

I agree it is a serious issue; however, in the grand scheme of things, you can't let it breed jealousy or hate and let it take away from your enjoyment of playing by the rules. If you see it, report it; otherwise, focus on how you can score the big bucks the right way.

I just had Cantrell take care of it. Dips are usually in the $40-60 range.

Ha, we turn off the lights in his room when it is time for him to sleep for the night.

I have mine done flat. Most all others have a gloss clear coat. I think that makes them look horrible.

Trail mix type snacks are good. A candy bar is good for a sugar burst. I really like either the self-heating soup cans or the soup cans designed to go into the microwave. Strap a hand warmer around one and toss it into your muff to keep your hands warm and also heat up the soup. By lunch time, it's nice and warm to sip. Water or gatorade for drinks.

He doesn't get blood in his truck. He has a slide out, carpeted drawer instead of a truck bed, with various compartments for bows, guns, accessories, etc. Might I add, he has to open several drawers to find a can of bug spray that he forgot he bought to store in the drawer. He carries tarps to wrap the baby deer up in. He gets cold easy too, but that's just because he forgets gloves or gets wet. Sheesh. I can't talk much. Moog will throw out some dirt on me I am sure. At least I can sit all day.

Had my buck from last year dipped in Predator Fall Gray. Came out nice. Back buck is my FIL's first in 40 years. Not a huge fan of the basic euro, but think the dips add a bit of character to it. I was wearing that camo when I shot it anyway. Ignore the attack dog in the background.

Excellent post. I bought a couple cheap WGI cams at Dick's recently on a weekend. The girl at checkout asked me if I wanted the warranty for all three cams, I said sure. She mentioned I should buy one instead of three policies because it isn't tied to the cam's serial number. I told her that was solid thinking, that half of my 60 employees wouldn't think like that and I wish they did. I could clearly tell she didn't believe me based on my appearance alone, lol. Although, I have to say some people can't even look redneck even when in camo. Moog, for example. He values looking good as much as playing good, lol!
