  1. Hope all turns out well Larry! Everything gets into perspective real quick when something like this happens.
  2. Yeah, the wind on sat here seemed to have brpught down some acorns.
  3. Wow, that's tough. Carol was professional the one time I had her do a mount for me. It came out fantastic. Her work is really that good. I've moved over to Cantrell, but didn't have any reason not to use her again. Her turnaround was really acceptable to me. Shot end of Oct. and picked it up April/May timeframe. I do know her mother was ill at the time and it was one of those long-term care situations. Don't know if that is still a factor.
  4. After shooting, I'd leave it assuming opening day and enough time/people to get it out. I've shot a few does in late morning opening day and regret letting my gun down and being midway down the stand and coming into eye lock with a shooter buck. Do I regret shooting the doe? No, but I should have stayed in the darn stand and had some patience. That meat isn't going to go bad that fast and isn't going to spoil. A bear, sure I can understand the meat concerns, but really it's not going to go bad in a few hours in mid-November for the most part. I don't think it is unethical. And really, I think if if got down and started getting it out, my hunting friends would be ticked as they'd want to be around for it...I know I would if one of mine shot one....that doesn't happen every day and I'd like to be there to celebrate with the hard work to do. I mean, how often are you going to help a buddy drag out a bruin. That's fun stuff, even if it is back-breaking work.
  5. There's bear here...had them behind my house. The breakfast joint has a few game cam pics of the one that's been seen residing in the area. Don't be so negative, lol.

    Buck brawl

Moog said he would have shot the small one.
  7. I wouldn't let it dictate your hunting completely. I think keeping an open mind and being aware of such a scenario is noble. You can do the best you can, and that's it. I've hunted along interstate 95 at one point with a 7mm Rem mag....if you travel I90 or any major roadway in gun season, you can see the army along the roads. With as many that do, you hear very little reports of such instances. They do happen, let's not kid ourselves, but the odds are so low that it would seem impractical to let it dictate your decision to even hunt there to begin with.
  8. I really think xbow users should be required to sit through the class. I just can't fathom the logic behind the current set-up. It's not even a "being fair" thing at this point, it's basic education to operate and hunt safely, ethically, etc.
  9. That is alot of work, hopefully you can pull it through. Good luck!
  10. Good article. One of the things that is not often mentioned is letting the child choose his or her adventure. Instead of scouting and picking out THE blind setup. Scout and pick a few for the right conditions and let the child choose where to sit from that option list. It let's them be responsible for making decisions (while you did the work to be succesful), and kids like to be involved. As time goes on, you can ask them why they chose spot #3, etc. and start discussions about it from there.
  11. Hopefully everyone agrees to terms. Not often people want to get into coops with that level of detail so that sounds super promising.
  12. I think we had a thread about this a while back. Wouldn't even know what terms to use to search for it. It was actually pretty big, lots of people posted their mugs. Even Belo....and Geno...and WNYBuckhunter. Pretty scary stuff.
  13. I don't want to get into semantics as clover can be sown in spring or fall, I would not say spring is the best time to do so. Fall planting in the northern climates is often a recipe for success. There's a reason plottiing strategies like LickCreek's has taken off. Fall planting with a nurse crop is a winner.
  14. Sorry for the blank post folks. I'm trying to share media pics of gam cam photos I've already got on my media here and its not working.
  15. Be careful each public ground may be different in their rules. Some parks/grounds let you park anywhere, but some want you sticking to trailheads for various reasons (low/no shoulders, etc.). And if you do get caught, you get tickets/towed.
  16. Rifle territory now. A few spots you could set up on the ground to cover some fields. Woods and bedding area is extremely thick and a rifle won't do you any difference than a shotgun as your max shooting range is going to be 50 yds or less for most of the season until snowfall knocks down the leaf cover and opens some lanes amongst the branches.

    Susky Muskies

I'm jealous. When I lose my fervor for bowhunting due to age, injury, or just more time on my hands, I really want to target pike/musky. They're a mythical fish for me. I've only ever caught a handful in my time and I just don't get out to do so any longer with other commitments.
  18. Excerpt: The USO said that throughout his 12 years of involvement with the organization, Williams created special moments for nearly 90,000 servicemen and servicewomen in 13 countries. "Williams traveled around the world to lift the spirits of our troops and their families. He will always be a part of our USO family and will be sorely missed," the organization said in a statement. His St. Jude work I think was probably his best. He captured imaginations of millions of kids in his movies and I can just imagine those kids who got to interact with him; they probably forgot their fate for an hour or two, and that's priceless.
  19. Reason being is because I can at least vet the candidate. I'm not going to be responsible for telling the landowner "this is a good potential leasee" when I don't have any prior interactions with that person and then the landowner has a bad experience. I hope this information helps.
