    Got in a stand i haven't seen a single deer out of yet,had it up since last year. I am hoping for something different tonight. I would really like to get a deer on the ground before November...

    Doesn't look too bad here in Cooperstown either. Afternoon hunt for me,and i will try to stay away from the area where i jumped the biiig buck,save that for prime time...

    This year just the money for tags. Bought nothing else. Almost bought a bow,but didnt. Next year will be the bow,so my average will go up..I am kinda cheap though,minimalist sort of dude. I am not convinced a $699 used bow is going to get me more shots at deer,but i like archery. In comparison,i am using a muzzleloader for gun and muzzle season that i bought of a friend for $100,scope included. As far as stands go,i would like more,just like everybody,but i find it isn't easy to sit in the few i have enough times. Plus i sit on the ground and have a climber.

    My first bow kill was a doe i snuck up on. I did watch her bed down,so i had a little advantage,then i kept her head behind a tree as i snuck to 20 yds. Only mistake was to shoot at her while she was she was bedded down. That is a mess. I did find her,but after tracking her for 800 yds.

    I will out in the afternoon,after seeing that monster on Friday my motivation could not be better,especially with the rut just starting here...Things are going to go wild. I also got a report of people seeing a big buck just down the road from my house crossing the dirt road i live on,i think i saw him in August,nice wide rack. I have an idea where to put a stand for intercepting him...once the chase is on.

    That's great otto,congratulations to you. I know how good that feels,it was only two years ago that i got my first bow buck. Now you are hooked,but there are worse things than that.

    I shot a buck at 7 a.m opening of gun last year and a doe at 7.10 as i was standing over the buck. Doesn't happen often,but it can..

    I jumped a giant buck today and was so shocked i forgot to run while he ran. It was pretty close to sunset anyway,i probably wouldn't have had time to catch up. I used a stick to make it sound like i am four legged,not sure if that allowed me to get this close. He was only 30yds off. The leaves were a little crunchy. What a thrill though.

    well i had a great sit. I went to a spot on a ridge to sit on the ground. After an hour there i didn't like it and decided to do a loop along the ridge. The leaves were somewhat crunchy,so i grabbed a stick to pretend i am four legged. I walked through some thick beech saplings and then dropped down one shelf of the ridge and noticed a biiiiig deer standing broadside at 30 yds. The head was behind a tree,but that body was big enough so i tried to draw. All of a sudden it spun around and it was a really nice buck for around here. I didnt have time to count points,but i think it may have been the one i got some pics of last year. I am so pumped now knowing he is around.

    I saw almost 20 does today between driving my wife to work,then going on a still hunt and driving back to my house. They are definetely on their feet today. This is all in an are no bigger than 2 square miles. They are in big groups here though,so i saw nothing for a while,then a bunch. No shots though. But i think it is a great day to be out...even starting now.

    Still not much happening here in 4F. Still hunted yesterday and saw only a few rubs.

    I will head out for another still hunt in a few minutes. I just dropped the wife off at work,and on my way home i had to stop for a group of ten deer down the road from my house. That was a big group, now i know why the woods feel empty sometimes.

    I was hoping you would chime in,i know you stillhunt almost all the time. It makes sense that you move at a good speed if you are an the adirondacks,lots of ground to cover between deer sightings. I would run out of property fast if i did that here. But i like the idea that the deer don't go far,have to remember that and see if i can't use that to my advantage.

    i agree,there is no too slow when still hunting. I have had some success,usually with deer that are on their feet. Bedded ones are really tough to surprise.

    Ok folks,the hardest thing for me when i still hunt is the fact that the deer have the sight advantage on me. I guess you all know what the browse line is,and around here in 4F you can totally see it,up to about 4 or 5 feet. My problem is that i am 6'3",so my eyes are at about six feet. Especially when things get thick the deer pick out my leg movement. I am amazed how much further i can see when i get down to 3'of the ground. I am to old to crawl on all fours all the time,so what do you guys think a good solution would be? Kneel down before i sneak to the next tree to make sure it is clear? Still hunt uphill? Downhill?

    Has anyone read any tom brown books,he is a master tracker? A lot of the things in the book are really wild. Whenever i try to track anything,my wife calls me mikey brown,lol. I suppose with enough practice one can get really good at it. One thing i remember is that a buck track will have the front hoofs on the outside of the rear leg print,and the reverse is true for does. wider hips for the girls,broader shoulders for the boys.

    what moog said,and this one had a sapling right next to it with a fresh rub. Plus the area was really thick and bucky looking.

    Well,i failed biz. Saw nothing for the longest time,well,found an empty buck bed. Then started to head home across the hill and jumped i think 6 or seven does.... You are up tomorrow,hope that eight or a bigger one yet walk past your blind
