Look for wild cherry trees as the beech nut crop this year will most likely be non existent (as it was a super heavy beech nut year this past season and normally its an every other year deal with them). Bears love cherries and will gorge themselves on them in the early season.

there is so much information available to beginner trappers nowadays.. Lots of books, videos and websites like www.trapperman.com and http://nytrappers.proboards.com really can shorten the learning curve.. lots of youtube videos as well.. Joining the NY State Trappers Association and attending their Annual Convention on Labor Day weekend in Herkimer is well worth it.. Start with simple basic sets like pocket sets in water and dirtholes on land.. If you use conibear boxes, be sure to adhere to the dimensions as shown in the regulations. Best of luck to you!

Picked up this pre-WWII model 70 Winchester a couple weeks ago and have decided it wasn't what i was looking for.. serial # is 7xxx so makes manufacture date in the late 30's. over the course of its life, it appears to have been rebarreled, restocked, receiver has been drilled and tapped (redfield base and medium rings included) and safety modified.. please see below post in winchester forum as to what the experts say about it.
