US Capital Lock Down

I'm so confused by this. How is this guy with the bat not being shot/tased/beaten on the spot? Not if they wear BLM t-shirts. -

I think those looters should have been shot on sight as well. Protestors, no. -

Why didn't that happen? They literally broke the door down. Looters and those that storm the capitol should be shot on sight. -

As much as I would like to see that, (especially after Trump's self-serving "go home" speech) I think it would just throw the country into total chaos. If these rioters were black, how many would be dead? Arrested? Isn't breaking into the capitol and sitting on the speaker's chair treason? The cops just seemed to shoo them out the door. -

I thought he just meant the presidency, senate and house. I didn't realize he meant the country. -
I think there's a feeling that they've probably already had it and are counting on their own immunity. And then some who don't trust the man. Sign me up.

The camo pattern on my Kuiu pants is so good the briars can't find me.

I’m with you. I drank enough last year for two, so decided to clean up a bit. Hit with cravings for the first few days, but through that now and smooth sailing.

Nerd Book Warm would be a great name for a band.

Depends on the hunting. Water retrieval, no. But running down rabbits, they're a pretty good breed.

Purchasing hunting dogs/family companions

These weren't dogs you brought around other people unless you wanted them taken out. I don't see the value in human aggression in a hunting dog. -

One of the hardest dogs I ever took a bite from was a Czech GSD. Tough dog too. What that handler had to do to out him was not for mixed company. Another friend wanted a hard dog so he imported a KNPV dog. It took off three of his fingers when he was trying to feed it. -
How surprising.

Not necessarily. Public comment/pressure got the DEC to change the designation the Esopus.

Yes. I just used the SV as an example of Germany's overall approach (breed survey + working titles + health clearance) to allowing a dog to be bred or its offspring registered. -

The SV system is designed to further working dogs. As I recall, if you want to register your litter, the sire and dam needs to be judged at a breed survey for overall conformation, posses a working title, and have health clearances. Wouldn't fly here. -

All solid advice. People can get a little emotional when training their own dogs, so I used to remind handlers to train as if it’s a job. Fair but firm is the approach. There are a lot of training methods out there and some that were acceptable years ago are less so today. Educate yourself and find something that feels right to you, and that you can stick with. Dogs are like kids ... they’re dying to learn. Go slow, break it down into small understandable action and rewards, and build from there. Train everyday even if something minor on a daily walk. It builds trust. I would look further back than sire and dam for health clearances. A couple of generations at least. -
Those feists look very basenji. Also not a bad choice. But a very unusual breed - barkless, independent, a little aloof with strangers. Hell on small game animals.

I had an earlier version of the article that was more traveloguey but my editor knocked it down. Buenos Aires is about 13 hours from NYC, but it's an overnight flight and they are only two hours ahead, so it's an easy trip. The domestic airport is about and hour away from the international and then the flight to Bariloche is 2 1/2 hours. You could do that in a day but BA is beautiful and worth spending a few days exploring. When I go back, I will do a more extensive road trip through Patagonia and consider the Chilean side and the Carretera Austral trip. If your wife wants a beach, Punta del Este in Uruguay is close to BA and beautiful, however, I would look at Central America - Panama, Nicaragua, Belize, Costa Rica, for a pure beach trip.

Thanks. No fish porn. I've only taken two take pics of live fish. Both times (Iceland and Tulum) at the insistence of my guide for their promotional purposes. Just not my thing. Honestly, the empanadas are out of this world. We found a place in San Martin that featured a local venison that was great. If I could figure out a way to survive on the four major Argentine food groups: steak, empanadas, ice cream and wine; I would. Whenever I travel, I always seek out the local equivalent of a sandwich. Preferably from a street vendor. I've never been let down. Don't have that pic. I do have this one. Split lip and broken tooth from protection training a particularly hard malinois. The owner didn't tell me he had trained the dog to go to the face.

That's a fairly mixed list and none would be considered small. Bassett is a big dog with little legs. I usually tell people to narrow from size > coat > energy level. That said, if Springers catch your eye you may want to explore them but I would be careful of selecting a dog because of breeder proximity. Look at the Brittany and for something a little more rare, the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. Good luck.

Standard Transmissions...How many can operate one ??

My FiL is a lifetime racer, racing tire distributor and, at 85, continues to compete in a '57 open wheel Lotus. I hate driving a stick when he's in the car with me. -
This is a pretty interesting read on the Hungarian woman who did the majority of the research on MRNA. She was dismissed. https://www.wired.co.uk/article/mrna-coronavirus-vaccine-pfizer-biontech
