  1. I have the Remington 700 VTR in 308. Absolute tack driver. I absolutely love it and it looks awesome too. They had a trigger recall not too long ago. It was a hassle. I ended up replacing the trigger with a Timney trigger. I was already sub-moa at 100 yards and 2 inch groups at 200 yards with the old trigger but haven't had enough range time with new one or am I that good of a marksman to tell the difference in performance as of yet.

    welcome to the forum.
  3. Aren't certain sections of Stewart preserved for restoration of certain threatened species? Tearing up these animals land can really hurt these animals. I've had that happen to me in California Hill a few years back. Several teens came with quads and started doing donuts. Really tore up the ground.
  4. Welcome to hunting and this forum.
  5. Good for pheasants or rabbits usually mean not so good for squirrels. Rabbits tend to like heavy brushes. Even if you do see one, recovery will be tough. I've shot a squirrel out of a tree in such conditions before and I got tore up by thorns trying to recover it. Generally I've found more squirrels in open hard woods. Areas with large oaks but not too many bushes.
  6. I have my eyes on a couple of rifles but with the wife looking at nursery/pre-schools that cost more than college tuition, I'm wishing for a winning lottery ticket.
  7. So you're saying you got lucky and is now using that as an example?
  8. Why the heck were you sighting in a muzzleloader at 25 yards? It just seems careless to sight it in at 25 yards, not actually zero it, then be satisfied with guessing the rest of the way. Personally, I don't point a firearm at an animal until I can, at minimum, put 3 consecutive rounds less than an inch of the bull's eye. My muzzleloader is sighted at 100 yards.
  9. That's a scene from "Silence of the Lambs".

Ammo isn't really lethal when it's not chambered. Essentially it was two magazines worth of firecrackers that went off.

Sorry to hear about the fire. Glad you and your family are safe. Please post link to funding site so we can help out.
  12. You use a 270 on grouse? Is there any meat left after you hit it? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Also add that it's only really the magnums where you need the longer barrels. Magnum rounds have more powder and in short barrels, not all of the powder is completely burnt before the bullet exits the barrel if the barrel is too short.
  14. Lack of flashlight again goes into the mindset that the road is right there, I'm only scouting, will be in and out before night fall. Only carried a camelbak backpack with a snacks and GPS. Was using Garmin eTrex 10. I believe nearby airfield might have caused interference.

  16. I've once hiked into an area without GPS and flashlight. I was a little over a mile from the road. When I had about 45 minutes or so left before sundown, I figure it was time for me to leave and I had plenty of time to get out. GPS could not pick up a signal at all. Left my traditional compass at home. Instead of bee-lining it straight to the road/car, I ended up zig zaging to get around obstacles. Ended up trekking the last several hundred yards in complete darkness. Got tore up by thorns I couldn't see and almost broke my ankles when I stepped into a crevice. Now I always bring a traditional compass along with my GPS, space blanket, ferro rod, and flashlight even if I am hunting near a road.
  17. That's exactly how I do it.
  18. Trying to fill out one more deer tag myself to fill the other half of the freezer. Hopefully soon so I can get back to squirrels as well.
  19. I thought we're done with ticks. Just pulled 2 off me and they were already dug in. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
