  1. Those who want to hunt archery only areas but dont shoot compounds. That was one example and it was on the first page lol.
  2. If it fits into the guidelines for whats legal (read the bill, there are width and poundage guidelines), then good luck with it living up to their marketing hype. : Oh, and the huge price tag. Hype ? Are you implying the the folks that market the crossbows are dishonest ? C'mon , give me a break ! Huge price tag ? It's less than a social Security check ........ They probably won't be allowed into bow season until at least 2012 and there should be some big improvements in the technology by then . Yes, I am saying flat out that marketing people are full of BS. When is the last time you saw a bow live up to speed ratings and what not? The price tag on the TAC15 start adding up when you consider that it doesnt come with the AR15 lower, you need to provide that separately. There havent been that big of leaps in tech in the last 2 years, why would they start making leaps now?
  3. Yes, I read that on one of the sites that had the bill spelled out. It was one of the major reasons to get them in.

  5. Yeah, that is how I understand the law also. So in reality the law does absolutely nothing. It won't effect bowhunters during archery season at all, and I can't imagine any gun hunters swapping a gun for a crossbow. This law has ZERO effect on anything. This law does many things actually. 1 - Gets the proverbial foot in the door for x-bows. It wont be long before they are put where they belong, in archery season. 2 - Opens up the opportunity for more people to hunt bow only zones during gun seasons. 3 - Give another option for late ML/bow season (now ML/X-Bow/Bow) for those that dont ML hunt and have a tough time drawing a bow in such cold weather. I love how the anti-crossbow crowd is trying to completely minimize this. : For your information, I am NOT anti-crossbow. I think they should allow crossbows during bow season. Having them legal only during gun season is quite ridiculous and does absolutely nothing. I can guarantee you that there will be mighty few who hunt with them during the regular season. And there will be awful few who will now become hunters for the first time just because crossbows are legal during gun season. Isn't bowhunting already allowed in many archery only zones during gun season? Where does it say that crossbows will now be allowed in these areas? If they are not allowed during bow season anywhere, we can't assume that they will now be legal in archery only zones. I didnt mean you with the last statement. Sorry if it seemed that way. If I meant you, I would have called you an anti-xbower lol. I agree 100% that they should be legalized in archery season. It will be legal in archery only zones, it was part of the wording of the bill.

  10. Correct. There is no ink on the licenses unless they changed them this year. I am looking at mine from last year as we speak and there are spots where the green is no longer on the paper, but the letters/numbers are still there. There may be faulty coatings on this year's paper. Here is an explanation of how thermal printers work... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_printer
  11. I agree with you, Im waiting to see what Doc says to see if I agree with him as well though.
  12. i'll never buy one - I already enough weapons with triggers Like a compound bow shot with a release?

  14. So Doc, if someone shoots a deer on thier or public land and it dies on your land, you would not allow them to retrieve the deer?
  15. The Facebook page is doing pretty well, we are up to 40 people on there. If you are a Facebook member, dont forget to "like" the HuntingNY.com page!
  16. Im with ya on the golf ball technique, but I thought this one looks pretty good too. I have my compressor, would work fine. BTW, Ive seen some videos of the golf ball trick going bad, ripping the deer's head off. ???
  17. Now this looks like a pretty darn good contraption! Anyone ever seen or used this method?
  18. Could it be that those 300 were antlerless bucks? If I remember right, you could possibly report your antlerless kill as a buck in the reporting system.
  19. I hear ya. I always look for bait in photos and called a few guys out for it on the old Empire site. I just havent seen any real evidence of it yet on this site. Many of the pics of the deer sniffing the ground are at scrape locations, etc. Im just not into throwing out accusations without proof.
  20. I stand by what I said. Show me a pic that indicates baiting on here. The only pictures Ive seen of an area dug down were from a guy wondering what the heck it was, and unless hes just plain lieing, its either a natural mineral source or he has a trespassing issue. There are many threads on this site that point out that baiting is illegal, but throwing out general accusations of breaking the law with no real proof is the truly petty and pathetic move.
  21. Well, I can only speak for the pics that I post, they are mostly taken at a spot I have which is a small food plot with apple trees. I have not noticed any pictures on here that have appeared to be over baited areas. If you have never noticed, deer will tend to feed as they walk around. You dont think that the guys getting good trailcam pics are just putting the cams out liberally, do you? The cams are usually placed with just as much thought as a treestand would be, in areas that should be good or are known to be good spots to see deer. I smell the tinge of jealousy in the OP.
  22. Last year on the bow opener there was snow on the ground, other years it has been T shirt weather. You never know what this time of year will be like.
  23. Deer go right through that stuff, guaranteed. Where do you think they will hole up during the day come gun season? They dont disappear off of the face of the earth lol.
  24. Freedom doesnt mean anarchy (no regulations or laws). Just sayin...
