  1. Synthetic stocks and a good sling help. I do have to say I liked the light weight for carrying my Mossy, but the extra weight of the 870 helps a bit with recoil. Its all personal preference
  2. Maybe, maybe not. Lots of people like to spotlight deer just to see them. I do it from time to time, but not as much in recent years as I used to.
  3. Never heard of that. Maybe it has to do with pupil dilation or something like that?
  4. I have a Mossberg 500, was my first shotgun. Its a great gun, and the price is hard to beat. The biggest complaint I have about the gun itself is how noisy it is to carry. The tolerances on the slide are pretty loose, and it rattles quite a bit. For a stand gun, its not much of an issue, for still hunting though, not great. This year I picked up a Remington 870, and from shooting it and getting it dialed in, I love it. Nice and quiet to carry, smooth action and very accurate. I havent carried it on a hunt yet, but have no worries that it will be anything less than expected. The price on an 870 is a bit more than the Mossberg, but there are literally tons of them to be had used for a price more in line with a new Mossberg 500, possibly less. Just my 2 cents.
  5. Congrats! Best way Ive found to do a pic is upload it to Photobucket and copy the link to your post here.
  6. Saw a good buck working a scrape line right up from my house this morning. I was in my car on my way to work. I believe it was a 3 1/2 year old 8 point Ive been seeing around the property lately. I still dont think we have seen the main part of the chase phase start yet.
  7. Thats a tragic mistake to make. Could have been prevented had he been practicing proper gun safety though.
  8. Great story and great job helping someone out! Congrats to your friend! Looks like that deer took a nose dive after he got him!
  9. Coyoteman, when was the last time you ran the Microsoft updates on your computer? You could be missing a bunch of security and Internet Explorer updates. Also, make sure you clear your Internet Explorer cache (Temporary Internet Files, Cookies).
  10. Good luck out there! Ill be hunting this weekend and thats about it for me for bow season.
  11. Great point. Myself, I started out and stayed a strictly gun hunter from the age of 14 until about 6 years ago. I wanted more time in the woods, so I have put alot of time, energy and money into learning how to bow hunt. One thing that I truly love about it is the seemingly constant learning curve. Its a great sport, and has a great motivator for me to learn more and more about deer behavior, tactics, etc. Nobody should mock it till they try it, its a totally different game from gun hunting, and will help with your gun hunting skills as well. What I dont like is the in-fighting stuff, but I think Doc hit the nail on the head. It always seems to boil down to guys being jealous that they arent getting first crack at the deer.
  12. A point Ive been trying to make with some people here for a while now. Thanks Doc.
  13. 308, just because some of us are moderators on the site, it doesnt mean we represent anything but ourselves. Doc represents Doc, I represent me, etc etc. We are just here to help people with the forum if they need it, and help the owner of the site to keep things organized.
  14. HAHA. The dot I put on there is above the spine.
  15. Congrats on the doe Karp
  16. Its not about differing opinions, its about hijacking threads, which is why I moved it into a separate thread. I stated my opinion about what you said, as others undoubtedly will as well. BTW, if youd like the title of the thread to be changed, let me know what you want it to be and Ill change it to that.
  17. Its a western thing, they do it with Elk, and Ive heard people on TV do it with Whitetails out there as well
