  1. Congratulations to all the successful and unsuccessful youths some great birds taken and great memories made. .My buddy and i took 2 youths out together Saturday morning and Blaze 13 smoked this jake 5min after it hit the ground from its roost.. We worked several more birds throughout the morning and one nice long beard came into within 35 yards but no shot for my nephew Dillon 13....
  2. You got to try the tent chair blind if your hunting with a kid.. you just sit in it and pull the cover over you.. it comes in a double chair or single chair.. Ive had several youth shoot there first bird from one of these including my daughter whom cant sit still for nothing.lol.. They are really light and portable for moving around.. I use one of the single chairs for deer hunting in the back woods its not very roomy but it keeps you out of the elements and a bit warmer during long sits. I hunt turkey with a TC super 14" .410 and i need to get the bird within 10 yrds or so and this is the blind that really works well for me.. If you havnt hunted turkey from a blind just because you like to move around and you think the blind will slow you down try one of these double chair blinds .. Good luck ..Ron http://www.cabelas.com/ensemble/Ameristep-One-Man-and-Deluxe-Two-Man-Chair-Blinds/7018.uts

  5. As a professional taxidermist i couldn't give better advice for cleaning a old or soiled mount then what dinsdale posted. Good advice Dins. For the yellow antlers i would recommend a dark stain thinned or watered down and applied lightly with a rag over several days until you reach your desired color.
  6. Wanted to personally thanks everyone from this great site for donations received and a big thanks to burmjohn for letting me post the fundraiser information. The overall response to our efforts was fantastic. Aside from the generous amounts of money and gifts which were received the ability to help someone in their time of need provided an enormous amount of satisfaction to all of us. “thank you" one and all for making this so successful.” We raised a total of $3,672.00 in money and services for David and his family. [/size]Thanks, Ron
  7. Heres what i know. David was walking "pushing deer" along side his uncle, his step father was approximatly 100yards away. In the mean time while David and his uncle were pushing the thick patch of brush the spotter up ahead see's several doe's running out of the thick brush. Not sure why he dont shoot at the deer at this point but im assuming he either didn't have a shot or no doe permit. I didn't ask .At this same time the doe's are running out of the thick brush past the shooter David gets caught up and tangled in the thickets, he now is down on all fours trying to get out of this thicket and when he finally gets to his feet he is all sweated up and uncomfortable due to all the clothing he has on " 2 heavy coats" . With his uncle only yards away David removes his orange hat and starts to remove some of the extra clothing . Remember the spotter "shooter " is watching deer running from this patch of brush just ahead of them at this very moment and is looking into this brush for more deer. BOOM!!! 270 win trough Davids guts. It all happen that fast. Davids father 100 yards away heard the shot then the most dreadful screams he ever heard and ran to his assistance. A 3rd person who was participating in the drive was actually close enough to see the bullet hit David in the stomach. Davids step father has been charged with endangerment, the shooter, the last i new he is were he deserve "jail,"David, he is in the hospital recovering from surgery with a new bag on his side, the mother and Davids 2 younger siblings are in total emotional and financial distress and need our help and support. We can all look at this terrible accident and possibly put blame on someone other then the shooter but right now lets think of David and help him out. Thanks Ron
