  1. This is my boy Charlie. My first mate in the boat , my shotgun rider in the truck.
  2. 6S and 7F Have seen two scrapes starting to be used. One rub. Def more deer movement though with the cooler weather.
  3. Sat this morn from 7-11. Heard one in the thick brush but never saw it. Got down from stand and into trail and out pops a monster doe about 100 yards up the trail. She is headed my way and at 60 she went back into woods. I had wind advantage and thought it was gonna get a shot . She never saw me but went into woods. So back in the stand til noon hoping she came back out but nothing. Get down again and this time a yote up the trail. Saw this rub about 35 yards from stand. Pulled some cards and does and small bucks. But more movement for sure. Doe I saw today was just huge. I thought when I first seen her it was two deer. Lol No hunting now til Thursday Eve.
  4. They release pheasants over at Verona beach state park. Off of poppleton Rd there is a few people that hunt them there.
  5. Saw 6 deer tonite, all flatheads. Shot over the back of a doe at 38 yards. She was wary and must've seen or heard as I shot and dropped to take off and it sailed right over. I even tried to aim low anticipating this. Wasnt a big one but would've been a start for meat. Today def picked up. . more activity on cams too. First miss with this bow that I've had for 3 seasons. Gotta fix that asap and down one tomorrow. Though for sure that balloon was gonna land right in front of me as they have landed there in the past. Well if they did they always have alcohol and snacks at least. Was a good night out. Another 5 inches and it would've ended better.
  6. Kicked up three on way in and now this lol.pretty though. Thought for sure it was gonna land in this field.
  7. It happens. No telling what they will do. Have had them come back but not often. One time I bumped 5 does that were right under my stand. I used a bleet call and called a doe right back in. But usually they gone..... But at least you know there are deer there. Have busted does before and a buck came in later on their trail. If they didn't spook and you can get in stand another way then do that. Back out and then come in from behind to stand. But if ypu see them going in the usually know your here too.
  8. Didn't see a thing this morn. Had high hopes for this am as it was cooler and nice. But nothing. Pulled a nearby cam and finally a decent buck. Nothing huge but a basket 8. Would def take it. Going to my greenfield stand tonite. Hoping they come put for a mouthful of clover.
  9. The 7 point was late Oct and the 8 was the first weekend in Nov. Both were am hunts. During times of increased buck pics and pre rut/rut. I rattled with grunt call in my mouth. I would rattle a little and throw in a couple of grunts. Only rattled for maybe 30 seconds. The 7 was a blind rattle. The 8 I saw just a couple minutes before chasing that 4 so I knew he was wound up. Like buck master said .... Have tried it on bucks I have seen, to try and get them to come over and they have just ignored me. But I usually try it a couple of times a season. Don't know why it works and why it doesn't. But if they are fired up already it seems to work better .
  10. Rattled in my first buck last year. I rattled and hit grunt tube a few times while doing that. Right after in the thick brush I see a small tree moving all over that a buck was raking. Pissed him off for sure. He came out down the trail 80 yards . He started going the other way and I grunted again and he came on a rope to me. A big body buck and was a short tine 7 point. I passed on him but shouldn't have. It was really cool. A week later rattled an 8 point to within 50yards . He was chasing and snort wheezing at a 4 point. So tried rattling to get him to come over after he disappeared in the brush. He came back out 20 minutes later but too far away and he saw me move to turn in stand.
  11. Didn't see a deer tonite. But watched a yote hunting frogs for about 10 minutes about 90 yards out. He would pounce on them and then flip his head in the air . Was entertaining for sure. Hoping tomorrow is a big day.
  12. Think I might finally get out for evening sit. It has rained here all damn day. Steady rain, then lake effect rain. Thanks lake O. Gonna go to a close spot tonite and hope for a little luck then get serious tomorrow.
  13. Wth forecast was for scattered showers. Been pouring all morning. Am guessing more people bailed than waded out today. Sucks. This pm to a local spot. Tomorrow looks great.
  14. its gonna be a celebratory BBD beer!
  15. two years ago - me and two other guys went up to the Dacks for an early bear hunting weekend and some fishing. An older guy went with us and he said he was bringing a savage 99 - 300 that his Dad gave him. So that night i said lets see that gun , i want to check it out. He opens the gun case and is just staring.... . I look at the gun and ask him - "I thought they were a lever action?' he goes ... I brought the wrong gun this is a .22. lol He had taken the gun out and put it in a case and had an old 22 in a case laying out and grabbed the wrong case. Yup brought a .22 to a bear hunt. Laughed like hell though! So we are out hunting and of course he stayed near us and just scouted and carried a pistol he brought. But my other buddy whittled him a sharp stick to use. We never saw a bear but laughed a damn lot!
  16. they always advertise that you can, But would think if you didnt hit the material perfectly straight on then it would really throw the shot off even more.
  17. might just be from being in the area too much. Maybe the human scent that is keeping them out. Did you use scent control when you set this up? Maybe busted deer when you walked in?
  18. That's amazing. My hunting buddy two years ago on last day of bow season came home from hunting and there was a dead button buck in his front shrubs next to the house. It wasn't there when he left. He called me asking if I thought I was funny dropping that deer off. Had no idea what he was talking about as he thought I did it. Lol. It had been shot and must've ended up there. Crazy. Never thought i was gonna hear anything like that story again.
  19. Not for dinner tonight but the entire weekend. Chili on to simmer and made some cornbread muffins to go with. Perfect for a cool hunting weekend.
