DEC says Increased number of deer taken and reported in 2018
G-Man replied to Bigfoot 327's topic in Deer Hunting
They are still only guessing.. cant wait for town by town take to come out.. I take on a good year 10% of entire town take off my place a bad year 5%.. I know what my neighbors take and if I include them then it becomes 20% there is no way when I ask around town who got a deer that their formula is any where near accurate... -
Alleghany Chinquapin- Dwarf Chestnut
G-Man replied to Bigfoot 327's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Found mainly as a shrub it is a fine addition usually only 15 ft or so tall. Production is limited by its size. Mostly planted as an ornamental today. My not be zone compatible depending on. Where you live . It wont grow by me it just gets to cold. -
This 4 point not legal in the NY antler restricted zones.
G-Man replied to Rattler's topic in Deer Hunting
Most of wny would require 4 on one side to protect the yearling bucks.. this 6pt would also not be legal -
No one did it's just a fact these deer were taken in non state ar mandated areas. That is all it works voluntarily dont read more into it than what I said. Just pointing out what nys can do with out the hunters being mandated by law to do. I follow what gets entered in nys and where ..if they were working so well in mandated areas you would expect a larger amount coming from those areas. Yet as this post shows they are from good farmland/ soil areas Something I. Find interesting and can make you can make own decisions/ beliefs from what you see as well . Personally I like the decision to be up to the individual. Or group if they decided to follow as they choose

Use of xbow during regular archery - Medical reasons
G-Man replied to Al Bundy's topic in CrossBow Hunting
They are pretty stingy on giving them out.. main reason draw loc never caught on.. basically need to be missing a limb . 35 lbs is all that is required to draw. Most injuries would allow you to draw that weight . Or you would be on permanent disability and not working or driving Had the definition of disabled been much more relaxed the crossbow would of never even been a thought in nys. As draw loc would be readily accessible.. had same discussion years ago with will Elliott ( outdoor writer) at a bear camp ... -
Check serial number true Marlins start with mxxxx Remington bought them AMD. New serials start with rmxxx I'm sure they are still decent guns but marlin receivers were much stronger. Allow reloads that are top marked for single shots pressures.. if you stick with factory ammo a brand new rmxxx will be fine. The 1st year rmxxx I would be Leary of as they did have fit and finish problems when they 1st took over. That was several years ago now.. personally I would look for used mxxxx and blues but that is my personal preferance

Seem like quite a few from non mandated ar areas. Why force them upon everyone when this is possible thru education?

They can ask for all the input they want but cant make it legal all season though they can mandate that a bow course can be required. The rest is up to legislation same as even having a hunting season at all next year..

That may be the big change from what I hear this year. It should of been required as death from blood loss is different from shock trauma from a bullet. Aiming points are different as well. I took a buck this year that was shot in neck by what I believe is a crossbow bolt.. a fairly common shot for a gun . Not a good shot with an arrow. If changed it will be the 1st step in getting crossbow in all of archery. Although I am just glad if it does teach those who have picked it up bloodtrailing and shot placement and well as deer reactions when hit. That is what bothers me about crossbow requiring a muzzleloader tag.. people think it's a gun but although fired similarly it still kills by hemorrhaging and aiming points and proper shot ranges are dictated same as in archery.

1st you need to know what your soil ph is ,chestnuts prefer acid soil 1st. They do great planted in old pine plantations. Then what do your leaves look like..light green? Curling? Dark green and glossy? You may need more nitrogen, potash or potassium. Each sight will be specific... you can always go with a tree spike about a 1ft or 2 ft away from seeding. Though I do not recommend fertilizing when planting. Have you at least had catkins form??

Buy the trees. .. I have done from nuts and they need to be stratified. Then you need to worry about squirrels and mice..with trees buy welded fence and make a 2 ft diameter hoop around each tree and stake it to ground leave in place till 6 in in diameter or deer will rub it ..pull long grass from inside fence before fall to keep mice from girdling. 3 to 5 years you can have nuts.. then collect and plant nuts.. they are very tough and will grow back from roots if cut or eaten but fence then and save yourself lot of trouble. Perhaps next year I'll start passing stratified nuts out. I'm up to 36 american and dunstan trees planted and dozens more that squirrels have planted .
