  1. This mornings view.. wrap.those kids up or take a buddy heater with you
  2. They have been steadily moving north . Birds fly much greater range .hogs dont have to move out of an area until population demands it Texas and floridia have a very high density fortunately the kill a lot down there. It thins as it goes north as they disperse. There is good reason they were banned from game farms in nys
  3. There are wild hogs in java. The few that were in Allegheny were shot by hunters. There are more in one of the catskill countys.. make no mistake they will survive and thrive here. They may lose one of their 3 litters a year if born in winter but ,hogs will enlarge a burrow from a fox coyote and live in it. Even a domestic hog will revert to hair and elongated skull in only 3 gen in the wild. They are not something you want here at all. Amish had 1 hog get out .. took 5 months to catch it. In the meantime it rooted up friends field and woods about 5 acres worth from 1 hog.. plus dec has no shooting ban on them. To keep sounders from disbursing..
  4. Sneak into the woods its so dark but i'm late, Find a good tree to sit next to to await this mornings fate. Turkeys gobbling at the dawn, Woodland creatures sing along. crow flies over and wakes the world, it doesn't seem to care if it's heard. Woodpecker knocking on the tree, I think a porkupine just shit on me!!
  5. Yes they survive in Russia easily. The wild dog roots , eat carrion , young animals, eggs, snakes, bugs you name it
  6. I specifically log portion of my land every 10 years. Sometimes for timber sometimes to remove undesired trees. It keep constant edge as after 10 year growth usually get out of reach of deer. I manage for browse as well and have areas for poplar regrowth. The woods are thick and may seem closterphobic to some but it's worth it in number and size of game the property produces year in and out.. 388 deer in 25 years and still going strong. One third of those being antlerd bucks. It took a few years to get to our goal and then maintain 10 doe and 5 buck is usually the target. But that has been exceeded in years and was much lower for 1st 5 I owned property until I started truly managing it. Logging will benefit more than it ever will injure
  7. There is nothing illegal whit what I do. It's not trapping baiting or poisoning . And it's done in winter . Maybe they can write Me up for littering on my own land.
  8. That's why I like sponge method.. I didn't make them eat them .. and people wonder why I never have a problem with them
  9. I have several trail cam pic of (neighbors dog with blue collar) and ferral dogs carrying fawns . Never had a coyote in a pic carrying one. .. Neighbor no longer has dog, nor to I have strays around..
  10. You all assume its coyote den..perhaps it is a feral dog...
  11. Honestly I'd get rid of the stray dogs faster than the coyotes.
  12. Target rifles are worth some.money..they will spend money destroying them vs make it..typical
  13. Chicory is relatively fast growing and very hard to get rid of after its established.
  14. Just had person killed just over pa line few weeks ago.
  15. Frontage is big on determining taxes on vacant land. I've bought land for hunting and then built house on it. I wouldn't not build a building on it if it was just for hunting. A trailer or shed on skids would be way to go. As for what to look for . Number of neighbors and size of their properties. It's cheaper to buy a large parcel then a small one(per acre) Is there saleable timber on the piece. I helped a friend buy a piece after a quick cruise of the timber revealed 2x the asking price of said property. (He max out the credit cards, then logged piece and paid off cards in less than 90 days before huge intrest kicked in ) Water sources, terrain, does a farmer lease land ? All have factor in buying
  16. Spring hatches have been miserable last few years. Weather is biggest factor. Early to late 90s were huge populations. Warm sunny springs. Birds were rousted every 75 yards. Since the population has dropped so has number of hunters. My camp had 10 spring hunters back then . It's now down to 2. Easy birds are gone and lot of guys have given up. Hopefully may will be nice warm month . That is. Biggest factor . Last years hatch varied across state with the weather
  17. Other options..cargo container ( covered bridge with lockable door) trailer body see cargo container. Cable suspension ( I built one of these was to far a span to cross my creek no other way was 62 ft long) If you built as Culver said a section of telephone pole or pt.wood for your logs to lay on spaced out less than 2 ft On center with decking added of 2x4 or 6 or what everwidth you want will hold your ATV no problem. Just make sure your logs are of a rot resistant species and bark pealed. Of also build it a ft higher than you think.. water can get pretty high or beaver can move in and make it higher than you thought it would get
  18. Just drop rolled up sponges in sausage casings rolled in bacon fat near the hole. Problem solved. If you do that all winter on canine trails you'll never have a problem with canines..
  19. Use locust or larch only for your runners and peel the bark off them. Both are very rot resistant. If you use other " pine" your doing a lot of work that will be gone in 1 or 2 years
  20. Deer will come to fresh tops and some learn to run to the sound of a chainsaw as a dinner bell. You will have to scout a little as you favorite oak tree may be removed. But the new growth, cover will far out weigh the hassle of moving a stand or two. Deer are creatures of edge . And making new edge is the best thing for hunting
  21. If trails are blocked it may make you move a stand you have been using other than that you hunting will improve 110%
  22. You may have to remove the top layer on yours as it was unfiltered Check the label on the cooking oil container to see whether the manufacturer has included any tips on storing the particular type and brand of oil. Though most food-grade oils are generally stored the same way, some may have more specific storage requirements or a longer shelf life than others. Let the oil cool to about room temperature after turning off the heat. Once cooled, drain the oil through a cheesecloth to remove any bacteria. Pour the strained oil into a glass jar with a metal lid. Tightly seal the container and store in a cool, dark, dry place at room temperature, or in the refrigerator if you live in an extremely hot climate. The oil may appear a bit cloudy after some time in the refrigerator, but it should become clear again once it reaches room temperature.
  23. Well that's a bummer. Il be up that way most of may during the week.. was a great place for dinner/ lunch.
  24. Are they still looking at may 1st? Reopening?
  25. I have killed a piebald buck here and have a few doe on cam. I had a speckled buck 3 years ago but never saw it again.. maybe it came back.. my neighbor is also my mailman so he gets to see a lot and keeps me informed on what he sees
