  1. Apparently never had to carry a heavy crossbow... Today's compounds are same if not better 45 yards I've killed at 70 with my compound and at 65 several times. You are a hippocrite.. Unless your using traditional archery equipment .. heck I remember the fight just to allow compounds. And then they were fingers only.. Now you can use releases fiber optic sights Or scopes.. Then the fight for an extra tag for bow... That people now want to give up...
  2. no because they aren't my deer... people really need to look at deer as public property and not get upset if someone shoots one they have seen or have pictures of..and hunting would be a much better for it..to many problems cause by someone shooting someone elses deer... unless you have them all behind a fence they are not yours...
  3. Actually deer love it and do eat it.. Always think of what you lose before you turn under that fallow field for the almighty food plot.. That goldenrod is dual purpose and you May lose a bedding / staging area. And push the deer right into the neighbors and they will come and eat your food plot at night....
  4. This is why I hate comparing ny to States.like Ohio that have mandatory check in for deer ..and they simple add a for for it take wasn't high enough.. Not to mention much shorter season.. You can't manage game with out a game department..we have a enviromental department. That has a small very small game department...and they do the best with what they have..... Would be so nice to have a nys constitutional amendment for right to hunt and fish to be monitored by a game department.. Deer hunting would improve immensely as well as crossbow and any implement and seasons they require would just be as simple.as adding to or eliminating it by them..instead of by bunch of politicians worried about votes...oh wait we do have a constitutional convention vote this fall...think about it!!!
  5. There are pieces of stateland that are small 50acres or so and they are empty.. As well as many larger area that are empty.. I can go by 5000 acres of state land and see 3 or 4 cars or trucks.. Just advoid the parcels closest to metropolitan areas.. 30 min extra drive and your alone except for maybe a group of locals ...
  6. The problem is the habitat sucks in the Catskills as well as Hunter per as mile being very high.. So does are everywhere being seen but there has to be bucks to breed them... Thick nasty areas. Are few and far between from what I've seen Who it turkey hunting there.. I suggest you save a few bucks and drive to wny and hunt for a week.. Lots of doe tags and lots of. Deer
  7. Why would you pay for a cistern when you can just have the well closer to the house dig deeper till you get flow you need? The water will be purer than cistern as mold will form on walls as it's drawn down.. I'd contact a well driller and just go deeper another 100 ft will be under the cost of your cistern or pump..
  8. Height is the deciding factor in placing stand for where i expect deer to show..if I'm 12 to 15 ft..15 to 20 yards..if I need to go higher for cover. I will place 25 or more yards due to shot angle..
  9. Congrats on your decision.. If you hunt in an area where bear are a possibility look into a bullet that will penetrate well..90% or more of my bear are shot while the Hunter persues deer.. Just something to keep in mind
  10. I would hunt there..it's legal and I'm sure you dont fire multiple shots.. Sounds like he does a land contract for lots.. I have a neighbor that acts up from time to time.. After I show he doesn't have leg to stand on he backs off for a few years and then starts all over...
  11. Multi micro pin ..fiber optic..by Montana black gold.. Love it
  12. Honestly your better off going in deep in the am. As deer are. In fields and orchards..they tend to bed deeper In the woods during the day. And will move at mid day to eat if they feel safe.. In your situation go deep early and stay late...
  13. A good pistol bullet or big bore rifle bullet works well and are.much cheaper than prepackaged muzzleloader bullets. I use hornady .452 ftx (leverevolution) bullets with the appropriate Sabot for .452 rounds. They were made for 45 cal rifles but velocities are the same from muzzloader and they expand and penetrate well as they are designed to do.. Fortunatly both come in boxes of 50..
  14. Bear are becoming a problem ..really need to think about a spring season.. Just think every bear you see is 3 or more dead fawns.. Coyotes aren't a big problem bear will activly look for fawns and have been shown is studies as top.predator for fawns
  15. Written permission and offer help with hay or something else you may be good at or do. Don't get involved in cash as it always leads to someone booting you out because they pay more...
  16. My stands are set so deer come from behind and always give a 1/4 away or broadside shot.. A slow moving deer at 20 yards will not move enough to move my.point of aim.. (my friends hate my stand sets by the way they want to see them coming..they also get buck fever) I simple listen look over the shoulders.. A.d pick which side to get ready on ..they step in lane and if it's one I want I shoot..if not I just let them.walk by.. If you want a deer to stop by you..just rub some peanut butter or bannana or limburger cheese on a tree 3 to 4 foot off ground They will walk up and sniff it every time..
  17. Just go per smells like per..studies show deer will show up to any urine.. Matter of fact get so.e from your gf/wife when she's on her cycle.. Same hormones same attraction...
  18. Mine is salt water crystal clear and runs year round.. Only have to be 65 to hunt from it.. Camp rule..
  19. All day hunt??? Never.did such a thing.. Why?
  20. My Hang ons are way more comfortable than a climber.. And much lighter.. I've used a climber and they are heavy noisy and a pain of you drop something let alone the scare you get when the foot platform or seat section slips.. For gun they may serve a purpose .. Just never found a tree in thick cover I can climb up with a climber.. And it seems that most.climbers are only effective if up 20 plus feet...sorry I'll weave between limbs and have great cover 10 to 15 ft in most of my sets.. Rarely do I find an area I can get over those hights and not lose all shooting ability due to tree tops in the way..
  21. Climbers need straight trees. Non ice or slippery bark.. I have straight trees but the tree I need in range to kill the target animal with a bow is always leaning or twisted or limby.. I learned very quickly to pick a tree within 20 yards of where I expect to get a shot and ln that 20 yard circle from that spot the wind picks the tree needed..not the type of stand.. Hang ons give you that ability to use the tree needed...
  22. But some scent elimination spray for him and a plastic tote..
  23. Well yearling bucks dress out 101 to 115 . two year olds 125 to 145 and 3 Plus year olds ( sorry after deer is mature they look same to me) 165lbs Plus... Yearling doe 80 to 90 lbs 2 year old 100 to 110 3 Plus 125 Plus... Largest doe we ever got dressed weighed out at 185 lbs. That's over 375 deer over 25 years.. From when I bough the property to now I have increased average weight. 15 to 20 lbs per age class.. By habitat management and population reduction. And yes many guys pass on deer though it seems 90% passed deer are during archery season.
  24. Twenty plus years of buying stands and maintaining them replacing cables and straps.... Taking them down every year and putting them back up.. I still have original loggy bayou aluminum stands from 25 plus years ago you use to use Chinese finger ropes to tighten to tree... Best longest lasting stands are by far the aluminum ones.by API and loggy bayou.. Lone wolf are keeping up well but are not as old.. Worst by far steel ladders..
