  1. This bill eliminate your fear, a archery course required to use crossbow. Isn't that the ethical way of learning how and when to shoot a deer with a cutting edge on the end of a shaft. Long shots can be posted of crossbow and bow at a target and even at game in an open field , the range most game is taken is still 50 yards and in even with gun that let's you shoot 500 yards or more, yes some will take longer shots, I've taken 65 yards shots and killed deer in an open field. Does it mean I shoot that in the woods ? My average kill range for deer is 22 yards.. including my long shots..an educational course that teaches ethics and proper placement of arrow is exactly what this bill is about, earning them the right to have full inclusion. I do not think anything will change your mind, doom and gloom x bows will bring.. it's your opinion and your entitled to it , but this bill eliminates your doom and gloom senerios.
  2. Thats nothing! https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://m.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DUCOn2HkJJt8&ved=0ahUKEwiE5aaC5-nLAhXIOCYKHVh5CWYQtwIIGzAA&usg=AFQjCNF0SPYXEZQPpm9ThpxairefRSqlUg&sig2=Eu6uq87MdBkCsXEbh6H_XA
  3. Yep. Just need the deer to stand still while you set up on. Bench, range it , and pray it doesn't move before bolt gets there...
  4. Sounds like an unnatural concentration where food was needed to be deliverd to keep herd alive .. so wolves kill the weAK in this case the young of the year that were probably kept off the food by the mature animals making them even weaker.. and wolves capitalized on it and prolly would of come back to scavenge them for weeks.. I have no problem with this except they seem to have taken the kills away from the wolves so they will have to kill even more to survive rather than eat what was already killed..
  5. No reason not to, many different ways to hunt.. don't like getting up sleep in and then go,or get up early and try, or roost the night before.get in close and try early am then go home and back to bed.. much more interactive than deer hunting.. just do as much as you want, but when you hear a bird spit and drum so close to you your whe head vibrates ...you'll be hooked
  6. Your crazy not to hunt deer flock to loggers, they love the tops.. and the loggers leave to go hunt themselves and wow deer show up.. find.a bird early roosting on edge of cut using landing as fly down. Have to be there early as they will leave but birds will still be there picking bugs off tops that are sunning themselves and dusting in landings and roads..
  7. Why is it a joke, yes I walked up hill both ways to school in a snowstorm, the youth hunt is a good way for a youth to sit longer in warmer weather and maybe see deer even if they didn't get a shot.It doesn't affect the deer for bow hunting, the participation is low the take even lower. Kids now do not have the opera unity to walk to the end of the street with bbguns and shoot frogs out of the front ditch that we had growing up.. a swat team would be called now and parents locked up..yes I learned in the cold bitter temps, but I had nothing else to do, today there are way more activities for kids that eat up time as everything is scheduled... gone are the days of pick up ball games, as the field are all reserved.. this is a good thing period!
  8. Passed this on to a few friend that we not aware of this.. the more contestants the marrier..
  9. So you have access for buck but chose to sit out and not kill doe? How is that lack of access? Unless you just travel to the area and hope someone let's you hunt.. it failed because people decided they didn't want to have to pass up a shooter buck while hunting for doe...and the fact bow success is less than 10%...
  10. That would be nice , bUT I've seen way to many hanging stands, trimming lanes, just lighting a fire at camp slamming doos at camp or trucks ,scouting by atv right before the bow opening. I think they kill activity themselves and want to blame it on others..
  11. Well think about this doe only in problem.areas.. so go shoot doe. All the bucks age a year.. so bigger bucks will be there the following year. Oh didn't take enough doe again another year of doe only...more buck to grow up.. finally hunters wake up and killed enough doe , now they open it up for buck lots of big mature bucks around... oh but wait you can only hunt this area if you killed doe previous years.. trophy management at its best...lmao
  12. Don't you think that a couse will weed out some current crossbow users and educate them on what to expect when using on in the field, arc of bolt, arrow, safe distances to shoot? Even if they take and pass couse and try 100 yard shots in the woods don't you think clanging arrows off twigs and limbs will discourage a lot? I know in ohio, after the initial buy and use of crossbows, there were a lot that went up for sale used!! Creating more ethical hunters thru a mandatory course is a good thing. Our numbers are dwindling. ....
  13. This new bill mandates a bow course so all those that bought on e still must have course or previous bow licence. The whole any brown and down hunter will buy one and be out there is done...that alone is enough reason to have this bill pass
  14. I'll hunt with my compound, unless I'm sitting in a box over a greenfield, the crossbow does not like multiple trunked trees as limbs will hit. It's my best early season. Stand and the proper tree for the stand ,so no I won't change trees. So compound it will be. The crossbow cost me a nice buck out of that stand last year and it won't happen again.
  15. The problem lies in the areas description of legal equipment, so no the state law does not lump everything as archery equipment, 8t breaks down longbow ,recurve, and compound by description and will define crossbow as well (old regs we re 17 in and 200 lbs pull..) so each case has to be done seperate.Like most towns ban discharge of firearm.amd include bows in their descriptions as well From the dec description of legal bow. Legal bows include longbows or stick bows, recurve or compound bows with a draw weight in excess of 35 pounds. A legal arrowhead is non-barbed, has 2 or more cutting edges and is at least 7/8 inches wide. So as you can see unless a crossbow is changed in description and it's made legal in all areas it does not qualify as a bow.. though it would qualify as archery equipment . One step at a time...
  16. Those areas left out by this new legislation are done so because they are local regulations that supersede the state laws, those will need to be changed seperate. The best part about this is the x bow will need a bowhunting course to use one, a little education keeps the "slob hunters" that everyone seems to know are out there away from use of buying and signing a piece of paper... this is also why you bought a muzzleloader licence. If they had a seperate x bow license you would have to be grand fathered in, this way there is no grand fathering as now it will fall under archery and require a bow license or course to use. (Seems that the dec had this planned ahead doesn't it?)
  17. The main question is why did you hunt elsewhere? As hunters management fall on us, if a week before gun was doe only how many would participate? Seems most would not using yourself and others I know for example... so like WI is doing whole bow and gun doe only in certain areas...
  18. Thus the new legislation making it require a bow course, no more running out buying one aND signing a piece of paper. Fact is we need more participation to increase doe harvest. Or the state will follow this example and make doe only.. they half assed it last year.. personally I'd like to see a 2 doe harvested to get a buck tag in problem areas. Problem with that is dec doesn't have staff or funding to check doe taken..
  19. As for crossbow being a savior, the new legislation will require a bow course so participation may drop as not all have taken the course to use a crossbow if it passes As this chart shows yes as participation increases so will crossbow take. But it is not the answer, that can only be done if hunters take doe, with a meat first mentality. Yes I know access is difficult so just wipe out the doe where you can...lol
  20. It's not the hunters making this decision, the dec wants deer taken to keep population in check. So they want the take increased in early season.. so easiest way to do that is get more hunters with more equipment in the field, can't draw back a bow anymore because. Your up in age ao can't stand the cold? Here I a compound or crossbow. Shoot away. The biggest change in deer hunting is the mentality of antlers first.. got hunt early to get chance at big buck, can't shoot that doe maybe the big one is after her.. It comes down to pure numbers for the dec.. people went crazy when areas were made doe only for two weeks ,now whole areas in other states are being made doe only. I honestly believe that if bow hunters had shot doe that x bows would be a non issue. As it stands in the goals of herd management this is very good legislation and should be supported.
  21. The need to take anterless only is real a d more wide spread than you think... Http://m.jsonline.com/sports/outdoors/controversial-antlerless-deer-regulation-takes-center-stage-in-waupaca-county-b99693466z1-373634331.html
  22. um that is on a fault..maybe you heard of it..Mississippi river? Has had several major quakes..
  23. Politically the tree huggers and animal activist vote so cater to them.. pure and simple...
  24. Will steel points be allowed for atlatl season, I'm a purest and only use onadaga heat treated flint for my points.. so I get a special season ??
  25. Everyone gets a trophy? Have you tried hunting with a crossbow, I bought one ,and tried it this year , I got a doe with it and it cost me a beautiful buck I would of had with a bow. Thise shooting lanes need to be horizontal and traditional trimming of lanes and hanging stands in thick cover is a mistake. They are front heavy, unwieldy, clumsy, and require a large horizontal window to shoot through (guess what the woods are vertical! ) holding one up for an extended period is very hard as weight is far forward . There is a reason they use blinds in the hunting shows with crossbows so much... as fun as my experiment was I'll continue to use my bow until I can't pull it anymore. To switch to crossbow would require a lot of work to shooting lanes, stands , and general hunting practices . What's the saying don't judge Untill you walk a mile in someone's shoes?? Try one before you think it's so easy.
