  1. By me that would be a 2.5 year old this season
  2. Wish that could happen doc, but the dec is not in charge the lawmakers are in albany, if we had a constitutional amendment allowing hunting to be controlled by a game comission, that would let them make seasons, implementation of weapons used, extend or close season according to their wildlife specalists. But we don't so albany decides on season, and legnth, and what to do this is just an extension of albany power..
  3. Cub prolly under 100 lbs, make a nice pole.lamp..
  4. Time to get a trapper in there, I trap but can't run a line except when I'm on vacation in nov, so I have a guy come in and hit the coon hard end of Oct and into nov,I show him where my traps are and he runs my line with his, we split the harvest from my line when I'm back to work.Been averaging less coon every year, but still get dozens in a few weeks but not like he did when he started 14 in 15 traps 1st year.it's really helped with grouse nesting and the few fox taken out in my lines help as well, I don't have many coyote here but that's another story
  5. Just shoot bucks that dropped their horns, shot 2 that way in muzzleloader last year. The bigger the pedicale the more bragging rights you have , had an 1 inch and 1.25 last dec. Hard to look for get you in practice for antler restrictions next year state wide
  6. A 1 to 4x is more than enough to give you good shot placement to 250yrds
  7. How far,are you planning to shoot? You can't see further than 50 yards in most places I hunt?? 308, 30-30, 45 70,30 06,any will kill a deer to 250 yards. 7mm is over kill unless you shoot in 800 yrds or more
  8. Not bees yellow jackets
  9. Birch would.make sence as its sap is sweet smelling and sticky, as is sumac. Hardwood saplings can be but they do have prefer species
  10. Yes I would guess that is a correct assumption, if new home owners are roaming about and have dogs as well , deer. Will shift, so will turkeys, as much as every one says they get use to it, (noise, ect) it take a long while and some will just move unless the habitat is fantastic there
  11. Foe example in Marilla and alden, there is 2 rod rd, 3 rod road and 4 rod road, the nice thing is that is the description of each roads r.o.w. a rod is approximately 16ft. Think of a town cutting trees off your front yard between the road and sidewalk they are town trees as row extends to other side of side walk, to many time you see people fighting to save their trees only to find out they aren't their trees at all
  12. Buck, around here pine, fir, spruce are prefer rub trees as they are very aromatic, cherry is another favorite. Any bear sign I've seen is much higher and you can see every claw mark in parallel, they don't slash trees from different directions
  13. Harvest data goes up as more hunters enter the woods I know a lot of people that don't hunt till november, or take vacation for the "rut" to go by simple increase in take only.shows more hunters afield. Nothing will ever be know for sure unless mandatory checks are done with the question of how many and what days do you hunt.
  14. No crossbow allowed for youth hunt,
  15. Young archers is bow only no crossbow. 14 they can use gun, and I believe the regs do not allow crossbow at all during youth hunts for deer
  16. You can tell a few varieties by taste, looking at the color of skin ,shape of apple , and color of flesh, and consistency of flesh, and when they drop. Being so early I would guess early mac ,and by age of trees I would guess 30 year old semi dwarf trees , that w as a popular apple at that time. Will make a good sauce and juice, and good eating, may want to mix it with granny smith or northern spy if your putting in a pie as the flesh is not very firm and you'd be making an apple sauce pie.
  17. regular apples can be small as wel although crabs are almost always under 1.5 in
  18. Exactly any maintained portion, which is usually the right of way,but town roads may have a ditch or may not, right of way is easily looked up in a town platbook.
  19. Crab apples have a long flexible stem, regular apples have a short stem, both apples are edible, though sugar may be needed in. Greater quantity if making sauce or jelly.
  20. You need to be off road right of way, though a dirt road my be 30 ft wide the right of way may be 50 ft or 25 from the centerline, the general rule of the field side of a ditch is a good guideline as ditches are usually at the edge of the right away. Add a few feet and you'll be 99% safe
  21. During gun you can carry a gun and a bow, but can't carry a gun during archery.
  22. I have a very early model 12 in 12 ga extra full goose gun throws slugs very well 3 in group at 75 yards, holds 8 instead of 7 as it is one of the first 1000 off the line. Age doesn't mean much to a gun if it's been maintained
  23. You have to find where deer cross at head of or tail off pool, or creek crossing
  24. I'm short Bearpaw work fine,it your legnth of stride you need to worry about, may need a pair of green mountain. I stay away from metal shoe for hunting, the sound of metal on ice packed snow or hitting a bush is so unnatural and loud!!!
