  1. That's good I'll have good chance of frost here in mid sept.only give 30 days or so, get cold on top of the hill fast..
  2. Welcone, feel free to chime in ...
  3. Maples seem to hinge best, ash can snap and kick and can be very dangerous, well all cutting is dangerous but ash especially so. If trees are small.enough.you can just bend them over and stake to ground. Aspen are butter to just be cut and they will regrow from.root sprouts and stump, any over 30 ft tall are just useless trees..

    ACORNS???

    Depends on white or red..
  5. Looks birdish but you said in the cabin?
  6. Looks good, hope frost holds off a bit into Oct for you, it's a little late for ptt, at least in my area, August 1 is as late as I can do here, but winter wheat or rye is still plantable
  7. You can have all the food for them in the world but if you don't have cover for them.they won't be on your place in daylight often.
  8. Natural grasses and.legumes are a great way.to go , I have started setting some.portion of my larger food plots aside and let them go fallow, makes.great.nesting and bedding cover as well as forage, I would.mow it 1x every 3 years or 1/3 of it a year just to keep woody plants from growing.
  9. No, buy for friends or.family and appreciate what they do for you
  10. Every year I never plan on shooting anything, yes I scout and practice and know where my bigger deer are , but I still don't plan on shooting anything, relieves a lot of pressure and the running joke at camp is every year I say that and get 3 or 4 deer. Well this year is different, I planted an orchard 12 years ago, paid to have dozer come in and clear a spot , planted my 5/8 whips and fenced them from rubbing bucks mice and rabbits, this year they are loaded and average 5 in or so in diameter. I'm happy !! apple.for me and the deer when they fall. Seems a bear has learned to like them as well , it's to big to climb them and had decided to just pull the trees down!!!! Since war has now been declared I have a hit list with a bear on it!!!!
  11. Good advice, and I would add practice from am elevated spot at 3d target so you can see and learn where the vials are!!
  12. Not a flint er but still use my side locks, Esp my 50cal home built kentucky, long and heavy it is a tack driver
  13. yes I was a clear.and food.plot but noticed as the crp fields were put back into production the drop on turkey numbers as the fallow field were prime nesting abd brooding habitat, I have developed a system.that looks at what will be lost vs gained now and some of my pots are now converted into bedding and fallow field or young aspen stands for grouse...
  14. early.bow because it's new 15th was start date for many years, it's a chance for bowhunters to prove they can do it! But look at the resistancd! Crossbow was brought in to increase take in bow, and eventually it will be in all archery if the archers fail to prove their worth by harvesting doe. Personally I am in favor of split seasons, give 2 weeks bow crossbow for doe, close for a week and the either sex for 2 weeks , close during the rut to protect bucks, then open for gun 2 weeks , close for a week and then re open for late season for 2 weeks... multiple opening days will result in high participation as will shorter season..
  15. the point I was making is that bow hunters are quite capable of controling numbers it's their mindset that limits that, wait for a buck, I do it as well, but I also know to control my doe at camp and take 10 a year just to keep numbers the same. Most hunters are not going out of their way to kill a doe, for example, at property in lancaster ny , there is limited access to hunt it's all private lots, I had 2 friend bow hunt it with the stipulation they shoot does, the one senior gentleman has take at least one and sometimes more during archer and has take on beautiful buck a few minutes after shooting a doe. The other younger man tries for a buck first even when told to shoot doe,and wonders why he can't hunt there anymore... it's the mentality of oh a buck may be behind the doe, if seasons were reversed would you still archery hunt??
  16. Wmu issues 100000 tags for dmu , sucess rate by their swag is 30 %, so 33000 doe in an area, not hard to figure out, the areas they did this in have more permits than hunters taking permits, so if they wanted 33000 take n they. HaND out 100000, but only 60000 are taken by hunters, so knowing 30 % kill they won't reach their numerous goal, but had bow hunters taken the extra permits and filled them at a rate of 40% they would of met target, problem is most people do not want 5 deer in freezer and only get one or two tags, that is where bow hunter and gun hunters need to step up and shoot doe and donate... but that didn't happen either so force bow hunters to take a doe in first 2 weeks if they want to hunt.... really simple when you look at it
  17. You can buy tanks and do yourself fairly inexpensive though it is messy, but if going in attic no one will see if you over spray anyway.. for examplehttps://www.sprayfoamkit.com/spray-foam-insulation/kit-602-shop.html?gclid=CjwKEAjwi4yuBRDX_vq07YyF7l8SJAAhm0rp5JwOvBn4mOWKZFc6yaABmcYulgkc3enVAwLEKtEiTBoC3c3w_wcB
  18. Their needs are stated in buck take per square mile and dmp quota fill per square mile... how they come up with numbers with no mandatory check is just a swag
  19. I don't draw till I have a shot and my hold is less than 10 seconds. Slow movement is key if you have to raise or lower your bow to draw it your pulling to much weight and. Your rapid draw is what the deer sees or you must draw early and hold waiting for shot, that is bad for shoulders Esp rotator cuff, you should be able to hold your bow out at arms legnth and use a push pull method to draw, using your bow as a screen between you and the animal. This results in a slow quiet draw with minimal movement, too many time I watch people raise the bow draw, then try and put kisser button in the corner of mouth, and then settle in to aim way to much movement for hunting!!! a push pull method pulls the string to your anchor point and aim point in one motion and you can shoot instantly. Lower your poundage take a slow draw and see how effective it is in the woods, you can be a great shot and have little drop with a high poundage bow, but you give up a lot and learn to depend on longer shots to connect, I'd rather shoot closer deer ( learn woodsmanship movement especially) I don't miss at 10 yards...
  20. What if they just changed the season to having gun first, Oct 15 to Nov 15th and then archery from Nov 21 thru dec? Better weather for aging gun hunters and higher take, and archers can Hold out for their older smarter buck with no interference. It's not about an earlier chance at a big buck then. And archers can shoot either sex. Wonder how many archers would quit hunting with out the opportunity for an early harvest?
  21. Well traditional I have my best hunting Nov 3rd thru 13th, regardless of moon, but I have seen the trickle rut whe n he has predicted it
  22. Should be ,vertical, crossbow and rifle shotgun muzzleloader option.
  23. Phase says bow hunters aren't enough, and that is true today, but 10 years ago, they would of been if bowhunters shot doe, simple truth is most didn't and now numbers are out of wack ( I don't care what target number is now) thus enter the crossbow, and soon if bow hunters do now step up muzzleloader. Yes bow hunters will not stem the population now but look at it as a retraining of mind set, shoot does control population... being beat into your head instead of waiting for a buck, ar coming for same reason, shoot doe, can't shoot little buck so shoot more doe. That's all dec wants, now you see the mind retraining beginning.
  24. So moon phase although traditional dates are a bout the same Nov 5th thru 12. For best hunting...
