Sometimes you need to get the deer moving fast..very thick large areas for example.if I get one out of its bed I will run after it for 30 to 40 yards.the Der thinks you might catch it and jumps other derrors in its attempt to escape . The standers are placed at terrain features that the deer will stop at before being blinded ex.creek bed, ravine, gully. Other times you just wan tc to get them up and moving.but not scare them out of town... every drive is different ....

I guess it comes down to if wild game is livestock. Our hunting system is based on thebelief that Gane belongs to the public.vs the English system of the game belongs to the landowner
-
Yep I'd be there now as they are chased out by the combine as well

Took me 13 years to get a buck big enough for the wall.take all the Deer you can if you get one in snow backtracking it will show you where it came from and what it was doing before you got it. Note weather and food sources. The more you know about the game you persue the better chance you have of being in right spot right time. That was best advice I got in 1995 and it works. Now every frew years I stumble into a good one, while I have friends who are still waiting 30 plus years for their wall hanger.

you need to learn escape routes and what direction deer tend to go with various winds and driver entrances. You can't make a deer go where it doesn't want to... this is done by trial and eror. Your sanders need to know direction drivers are coming from and safe directions to shoot. If the world record buck is between you and a driver you cannot shoot! We prefer to put sanders in elevated positions as the drivers often get shots at deer and elevating them helps eliminatell dang er. Again the drivers need to know where standers are so they are not shooting in their direction or in direction of other drivers.this is also very important if a standers shoot a deer and even if it's the biggest in the world they do not leave their a assigned spot for any reason during the drive. No one tracks or recovers deer till drive is done. Seems like a lot of rules. But someone needs to be in charge and lay down the law. It's safety first!

I have had a problem with put and take hunting for years, work on proper habitat and reduce predators ,then stock. It's my biggest problem with pheasant programs in nys. Can not see spending 20 dollars plus for each pheasant for 50,000 hunters.enjoyment. if the money went to habitat first i'd have a different view.

Get up and walk.it seems 90% of hunters are afraid to or do not know how to still hunt.it's either wait for deer to come to you, or you go to the deer.....
-
Yep, too much sit and wait on tv. Driving Der is becoming a lost art/skill

Drive the thickets withe some friends.if your goal is to get deer it's very effective

I have shot and killed a piebald buck and have seen some does.I don't think I would shoot a fawn free regardless of color. A mature one ,without a doubt.
-
I have bulldozed a pond to eliminate deer movement toward a particulAR area. As well as piled tree tops, tree plantings, crop plantings to create movement funnels, cover. A little extreme for some but habitat can be crafted to a hunters benifit.

Not being familiar with your area,he's either a very good 2.5 or a poor 3.5 in my area.

I learned to head to the woods expecting to shoot nothing, regardless of the big boys I have on cam,or see just out of range during gun. When I do decide to shoot I am pleased as I had planned on getting nothing. The release of that presure. To get a big one h as alowed me to get some of my biggest animals the last 10 years. I also advise to stop watching the big buck hunting shows, and big buck magazines. Learn to enjoy the hunt for the joy of nature, you'll be much happier in the long run

Perhaps there has been problems in that area and he's doing his job. If it continues a few questions to supervisor may be in order. Remember every person he approaches in the woods is armed. Being new think of how you would feEl in his shoes.

I have seen more than a dozen during non-hunting seasons, 4 during bow season and 3 during gun season.over last 5 years. i now have 2 denned on my property about 2/3 of a mile apart. one is a 2 year old or so maybe 150-180 lbs and is denned under a massive multiflora rose bush, the other is an older bear around 300 lbs or so and is under a tree top covered in vines and roses on a side hill. I love to track them in the snow on warm days when they come out to feed a bit. most recently this past weekend of gun. the smaller bear was 40 yards or so away feeding on apples.

i would look into a guided bear hunt in maine, or newbrunswick ca. they treat you right and you have a great shot opportunity. they are driveable by car and have good sized bear. nys is more of a oh there's one hunt.....

its worth it, if money gets tight you chop off a lot and sell for 5x what you paid for an acre. small building lots 60ft-120ft are 30,000 or more in a development. a city person looking for a camp thinks nothing of putting down 5000 or more for an acre . this has been the driving force of rising prices on land in my area as a 5 acre lot or under cost the same or more than if you buy 50 acres. a 190 acre piece with a small cabin (uninproved)just sold in the last 3 month for 89,000. the little 5 acre piece with cabin sold for 68,000. most land goes between 800 to 1500 an acre depending on size/ and what it contains

i wouldn't surprise me if that animal was part dog.. only way to tell dna, does anyone talk about coy-dogs no ...why... animal rights groups would say its a dog and take you to court. so its a big coyote......

Will turkeys roost in the same spot come spring?
G-Man replied to walter sobcheck's topic in Turkey Hunting
winter roosts and spring roost are usually different. although a cold spring will make spring birds search for same kind of thermal cover as fall. -
no common sence at all, was at local bar n grill, guys at table by us boasting they have 750 pics of deer in last 3 days and they are going thru 100 lbs of corn a night... wish a dec officer was there in plain clothes eating and followed them back to camp........ oh well, . on the bright side they couldnt believe that they werent seeing much at their place with all the corn they were going thru...
