  1. Hey guys looking to hear some feedback on rocky point. I have been hunting there for weeks with few sign of deer and no sightings! Has anyone had any luck or know some of the better parking spots? Thanks!
  2. Man o man hunted long island and i came home with CHIGGERS! Anyone else run into these nasty little critters today?
  3. Hey guys I have heard that it is legal to hunt at caumsett state park is this correct? If so how can I go about doing so? Thanks
  4. Hey guys I am looking to see if anyone has done any scouting at sterling state forest? I plan to go up there for opening day bow however I am ashamed to say I haven't had time to get up there to scout this year. Anyone else going to public land for opening day? This is my first year bow hunting and I remember what its like opening day rifle! Should I expect the same crazy crowds and get there at the break of dawn? Thanks a lot guys

    Corn Fields

Just out of curiosity, when do the farmers tend to cut corn by you? I hunt a little south of Albany and they are already cutting this year. Also, anyone ever have concerns of E. Coli when the farmers spread liquid manure after they cut?
  6. Hey I was looking for a used archery caliper. If anyone has one they are interested in selling please pm me thanks!
  7. Hey guys I am new to bow hunting just passed my test with a 100! Very exited to get in a tree stand in a few weeks however I have yet to buy my bow. I am in the $800 $1000 price range for a full setup. Let me know what you guys think! Thanks again and good luck out there!
  8. hey guys just measured my draw length and it comes out to 28" anyone know what size arrows I should buy!? thanks a lot
  9. Hey guys I am interested in doing some bow hunting at ridge out east on long island. I have heard it is free to hunt there and from what I have heard there have been some great harvest coming out of those woods. Has anyone had any experience hunting there? And if so can you give me a few pointers as to what I have to do to be able to hunt there? Thanks guys I cant wait for October 1st its going to be an amazing season!
  10. Hey guys I was wondering how you determine your draw length? Thanks guys
  11. Hey guys I keep going back and forth on which bow to purchase. At first I was all about the PSE Dream Season DNA which goes for $899 the bow has tremendous power and a fps of around 320 depending on the grain. However I heard it has no valley and very little creep. Then I came across the the bow tech experience $999. Field and stream gave it there number one pick and it seems to get great reviews all over. However its not very fast for the price they are asking. It seems to come across as a very well balanced bow. I know a lot of this comes down to preference and I will make sure I shoot them before I make my decision however then comes number three which personally I fell in love with the looks of and light weight which would be the CARBON KNIGHT! Im sorry but this is one sweeeeeet lookin bow! If I was a ninja I would be shooting this bow for sure its cool as hell! Seems to have some great reviews so I dunno guys let me know what u think!
  12. Hey guys I am really interested in buying the Bowtech Carbon Knight has anyone tried this bow out? thanks guys

  15. I would like to do the late bow hunting in Moreau's lake State Park, but I am not sure what zone the park is in. So the question is what zone is Moreau Lake State Park in, Northern Zone or the Southern Zone?

    Bobcat!

So my assumption from last week was correct, I posted a pic of what looked like a bobcat when I zoomed in. Well, today around 6 I see something brown to my left and I ready hoping it was my #1 coming down the trail. I watch and realize its a cat, but not a little house cat. It walked out the trail, stopped and peed on the stump by the bucks rub. I was amazed to say the least. I have never seen a bobcat around and just watched in amazement as it walked up the hill and crouched down for a few minutes. My experience left me with tons of questions, how aggressive are they? If he is peeing near the rub is it common for deer to just vanish from the area? (camera has been bone dry for a week and a half after 30 pictures in the month of Sept.) If there is one, how many more are there? It was great to watch but man it confused the hell out of me. Needless to say I walked out with an arrow in my free hand (felt like the thing to do but probably wouldn't have done any good). I look forward to any input. Thanks! Chris
  17. Are you ready for October 1st? When are do you plan to get your first few days in? Is your Bow ready to go?
  18. Took a four on Saturday Afternoon. 18' ladder in an abandoned orchard on a hillside. At 2:30 I opened a can of Tinks 69 Buck-Bomb that I dropped under the stand to fog up the orchard. About every 20 minutes or so I doe bleated. At 4:10 I spotted the buck 50 yards off to my left with his nose to the ground and his ears back. He was tending grunting right into the stand. I drew my Bear Strike and waited for him to come into 20 yards. At 20 he gave me a quartering-to shot, I grunted once to stop him. I pulled the trigger and sent a Rage 2 Blade broadhead through both of his lungs. He turned and ran up the hillside. About two seconds later I heard a crash. The spot where he stood when I shot him was engulfed in blood. The entire trail up to him was more like a crime scene than an orchard. He was only 50 yards from the stand, he only ran 30 yards after the Rage opened a 2" wide hole in his chest. He dressed out at 125 pounds. My only complaint is that he snapped my Harvest Time HT2 arrow when he ran through the orchard. He was the 7th deer I had come into bow range that day.
  19. The 2011-2012 Southern Zone bowhunting season and Northern Zone muzzleloader season for deer and bear begin at sunrise on Saturday, October 15. The Southern Zone includes most of upstate New York outside of the Northern Zone, except for Westchester County. The Northern Zone, generally includes the Adirondacks, the Tug Hill Plateau, the eastern Lake Ontario plain, and the Champlain and St. Lawrence valleys. “The early seasons are a great time to be in the woods,” said Commissioner Joe Martens. “With recent legislation now allowing 12-13 year olds to purchase a Junior Bowhunting license, we encourage adult hunters to share their passion, experience, and time with a junior hunter this year.” Hunters are reminded of several other changes for the upcoming hunting seasons: Mandatory antler restrictions are in effect during bow and gun hunting seasons this year in a portion of Wildlife Management Unit (WMU) 3A in the Catskills (part of Delaware, Sullivan and Ulster counties). The new law, established by the New York State Legislature, covers the portion of WMU 3A that lies south and west of State Route 28 and requires that bucks taken in this part of WMU 3A have at least one antler with 3 or more points that are at least 1 inch long. The law applies to all public and private lands and all hunting seasons in the affected portion of WMU 3A. Only hunters under the age of 17 are exempt and they may take any antlered deer with at least one antler measuring three or more inches in length. See www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/27663.html for more information about antler restrictions in New York. Bear hunting has been expanded in eastern New York, from Westchester to Washington County, and is open during the same time periods as deer hunting. For specific bear hunting areas and season dates, visit www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/28605.html#Black. Crossbows may NOT be used during the bowhunting or early muzzleloading seasons, but crossbows may be used during the regular firearms and late muzzleloader seasons. See Crossbow Hunting at www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/68802.html for more information and the Certificate of Qualification. DEC encourages bowhunters to participate in the Bowhunter Sighting Log www.dec.ny.gov/animals/7193.html. The Bowhunter Sighting Log involves keeping a diary of your bowhunting activity and the number of animals seen. These data help DEC track deer and other wildlife populations. 20. The SHOTGUN SEASON for Long Island White Tails commences January 1, 2012. Included for the first time within the shotgun season are "crossbows". Hunter safety and game conservation are our #1 priorities; this being said... we believe it to be responsible of us to offer the THRILL OF THE HUNT "experience" to those who shoot the crossbow. We also realize that the mixing of vertical & crossbow, based on safety concerns is a "no-no"; therefore, we have decided to dedicate Saturday mornings, 9am--noon, for the months of October 2011 thru December 31, 2011, as the official OPEN CROSSBOW SESSION. Fee for the OPEN CROSSBOW SESSION is $30.00 per 30 target round, field points only. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED! Those who show-up without reservations, may not be afforded range time. Reserve early, call Art @ (631)566-5261 or email: [email protected]
