  1. Hi: I live in the Adirondacks in the village of Bloomingdale, located in Essex County. I have been hunting for over 40 years, am a very active 65, married since 1972, retired from the Air Force and love to hunt. I am a certified New York State Hunter Educator and would like to meet a similar experienced hunter with whom I can partner with. Usually you don't see this type of topic, but, hey, it does not mean it will not work. Just maybe there is someone out there with a similar need. Here are some of my preferences: I prefer tracking deer, but on occasion will sit early and late in the day. If you followed Larry Benoit and his sons, that is how I like to hunt. I really enjoy the hunt, the shot is secondary. I like hunting small game as rabbits, grouse, and pheasant. I used to have a Brittany that was an excellent dog, but now I have no dogs. I respect all game laws and will hunt all day in areas far off the beaten path. Shooting a deer is not the most important result in my hunts, the enjoyment and quality of the hunt is what matters to me. Why am I looking for a partner? Going alone can be dangerous especially if you get hurt or need help. Then there is always the work after getting a deer. Two people make the job so much easier. I would prefer someone that has a similar past history and lives no more than a 60 mile radius from me. If most of my preferences interest you, send me a message. Thanks for reading and if you have any questions, just send them. You never know.
  2. This was the highlight of my last day. After the big gust of wind a squirrel falls out of the tree, (He forgot his gloves.) then he pays me a visit. He was about a foot above my head. "Don't jump on me!!!" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NI95EUqQtDc&feature=youtu.be

  4. My buddy Tom was luck to get his first buck this year and it is his first year hunting for deer! Congratulations Tom, hope this is first of many!!!
  5. I was wondering if anyone has any expirence with either of these arrows and if they are really worth the money. Currently I shoot the easton axis on a mathews chill but I am getting a carbon spyder and want to do a different set up for this one. Any input is appreciated
  6. so after a long morning of bow hunting at rocky point I come across a road that had 4 deer within 50 yards of me! I crawled up within 30 yards for a clean shot took my time they didn't even know I was there! Had one BIG doe picked out and just as I go to draw some fat son of a b goes cruising by on his mountain bike laughing spooking the deer! I hope his fat butt gets a heart attack! Oct 1st as far as I know you aren't even supposed to be bike riding at rocky point...... That's hunting on long island for you lol!
  7. Hey guys I was wondering who was going out for a hunt today based on the weather. So far on long island there is no rain I kinda wish I went out. Supposed to clear up later on maybe ill jump in the woods for an evening hunt. If you are heading out to face the storm my hats off to you GO GET SOME! Also whats the deal with the rain? Do deer move around a lot when it rains? Is this a better time to hunt? Lets hear your opinions!
  8. hey guys I was bow hunting last year when I jumped a group of deer and the dominant mature buck wheezed like hell at me! I tried a grunt call which stopped him for a second. He wheezed back and then chased the does back up the mountain. My question is should I have responded with a wheeze or a grunt/doe bleet? I had some thick brush between me and the deer so I didn't take the shot because I didn't want to take a chance of wounding this animal. It was truly an amazing experience to hear a wheeze that close! Very cool and startling sound to hear when your out in the woods. So what would you have done to try and stop that buck!?
  9. Have you added new stands / blinds? (Post pictures!) New Bow / Gun / Xbow? Practiced for weeks on end? Do you have any crazy rituals? What have you done this year to prepare for the 2014 Hunting season?
  10. I am sure by now the majority of you have come across the add for the new deer attractant "DIRT BAG"! If you haven't its a molasses based deer attractant that looks and feels just like dirt! They claim the product was designed so other hunters wont find your "SWEET SPOT" out on public hunting grounds. My question to you is how is this product going to effect baiting in NY. If guys start bringing out bags of dirt how exactly would the park rangers know about it? Kinda makes you wonder what the alternative motive for making this product was. I am curious to hear what every ones views are on the moral issues of baiting in NY when it is CLEARLY illegal. Some guys are for it and some are not! Lets hear it!
  11. Hey guys with the season right around the corner lets hear who's ready to get back out there! I personally cannot wait! Bow season here i come!

  16. Hey guys I got buck fever and shot a doe in the belly. I found two chunks of white fur as well as a chunk of calamari and a huge pile of green crap. The shot was just before dark and after an hour of getting lost in the woods trying to track the animal I am going to drive all the way back up to try and track it. Anyone have any ideas that could help me find it? It ran like hell into a tree did a flip got up and kept hauling tail down the mountain until I lost track of it. thanks so much it was my first deer! I GOTTA FIND IT!
  17. I took off Friday afternoon until Tuesday to get in a few days of bowhunting to try and get my first bow buck. As soon as I get to my property on Friday afternoon, I go check out a new stand I was excited to hunt and find my trail camera stolen. Fantastic.... I hunt saturday, sunday and Monday with only 1 hour break each day. Only Deer sighting was 2 small Does on monday around 330. Tuesday Morning I wake up to a few inches of snow. Now im excited again. The spots I hunt are pretty thick so something could pass by me 50 yards away and I wouldnt be able to see them, with snow I figure ill see some movement. Hunt 530-1015. Nothing. Im walking back down to the cabin to eat, pack up and go home..when I get down to walk through the field which is 50 yards above the cabin I see 2 deer eating under 2 old apple trees in the corner of the field about 100 yards away. Im carrying my bow, pack, and harness. I drop down to the floor and basically strip down. I nock an arrow, put my release on- I figured it was the 2 doe I saw the day before and I may be able to take one on the last day. I crawl and get up to a small pine tree in about 25 yards from the apple tree. I see the first doe walk into the tree line so I slid to the right of the tree hoping to get a shot at the second one as it walks off. Im in high grass now thats half patted down by snow. tough to move without making noise. I look at the other deer and as it turns its head I see a rack. -Holy crap- Now I left my pack behind, so no binoculars and no grunt tube. I finally get a look at him and he was a legal deer(AR in my zone), atleast six point might have been an 8 but I cant be sure. We got into a staring match for what felt like an eternity, my back is still hurting from standint bent over so he wouldnt see me move. In what I would say 10 minutes, he walked into the woods with the doe and then walked back to the tree. He kept looking at me, stomping and trying to figure me out. He kept pointing his nose up trying to smell me but the wind was blowing very hard into my face. If I had a grunt tube I think I could have lured him into the open because i think he thought I was another deer, Why else would he come back to me instead of staying with the doe? If I had know it was a buck from the get go I would have tried to crawl into the road and try and move around him instead of that high grass but thats the way it worked out. The second time he decided to walk off he was further out.. I drew on him 2 times but there was tall grass covering half his body and a couple of trees around. I would have had to sneak an arrow about 40 yards through a pretty small hole. Im not confident I could make that shot. I was extremely discouraged walking down from my stand that morning. Extremely pissed that I hadn't seen deer in 4 days. I was just looking forward to get a gun in my hand to increase the odds. If that happened to me during gun season I would have killed a nice 6-8pt buck but the experience wouldnt have been nearly as fun. I crawled to within 25 yards of a nice buck and had him fooled for a decent amount of time. The adrenaline rush I had during those 15-20 minutes are the reason I hunt and what I wish I could explain to my non hunter friends. It was 25 degrees with a stiff wind, All I had on was pants, a sweatshirt and a hat, left my jacket and gloves with the stuff I dropped and I wasnt cold for a second. Adrenalines an amazing medicine..My heart starts beating a bit faster everytime I replay the scenario in my head and think of what I could have done differently. Cant wait til Oct 1 2014... PS. If anyone is proficient at creating food plots and can give me some pointers let me know.. Im already picturing that spot for next year : ) I have a habit of trekking haf a mile up a mountain and having the deer a few steps from the house
  18. I'm planning a trip to hunt Hamilton County during rifle season. My father and I are renting a cabin near Inlet. Anyone have any suggestions for places to go/things to look for during scouting trips? I'm making a trip up sometime in the next few weeks. I was told to look for Breech trees and places where logging is on process, so that will be my initial targets when I head up. Thanks guys.
  19. Hey guys I am interested in hunting Rocky Point on long island. I was wondering what passes I will need. 22. I grew up in Cameron County PA and have hunted there my whole life. After I moved to NYC I've began to hunt NJ and NY, both because of friends I met at college. Does anyone else hunt other states? What's your opinion of deer populations, antler size, hunting pressure for your respective hunting lands compared to your home grounds?
  23. So I hunted all of archery season in southeastern NY but a good buck never presented himself. I had a couple run-ins with young bucks but held off. I headed home (Cameron County, PA) for the opening day of rifle season. After doing some scouting, bear hunting which provided a 177lb bruin, I determined that my normal options weren't going to produce the quality of buck I was looking for. I decided to join my brother in a relatively new area that he had been working in as a forester. We set out at 5am on opening morning and I was headed to the edge of a point behind two very thick clear cuts over looking two hallows. I got to my seat, turned out to be a couple downed trees, around 7 and sat down. My hope was that having beat people into the area someone might come in after I did and push something to me but to add a little reassurance I drug a scent line behind me on my way in. After around an hour of listening to a war going on to my north I began to question my positioning. I stood up on my log to get a better look onto the bench below me and stretch a little when I heard some leaves/snow rustling. I slowly turned back to where I had walked in from and saw this buck making its way off the top bench. I was slightly off balance on the log but twisting my body was able to get my gun up and on him. He stopped at a downed tree roughly 40 yards from me and began to act a little spooked. Afraid that I would not be presented another shot I took the off blanched free hand shot and preceded to do a split and landed on the log. Thinking there was no way I hit him I let another shot rip as he tore down the bench and out of sight. With all my adrenaline racing I went up to begin my search for blood and found none. I tracked him for around 150 yards with no sign, dejected I made my way back to my spot and texted my brother who was hunting on the next hillside over. He encouraged me by saying that the first shot sounded good and that I should press on. Well needless to say I'm extremely happy I did because no more than 50 yards after I stopped tracking I found blood. I followed it for around another 100-150 yards and there he lay at the edge of a spring. He was a 3 1/2 year old 9 point with a 17 and 1/4 inch spread. I don't know if I've ever experienced such a swing of emotions in such a short time. You have to love being able to share times like that with family. Such a great way to spend a chilly Monday morning!
