  3. Anyone here a memember of a green island or any other rod and gun club in the capitalist district with access to private hunting grounds they can recommend? it doesn’t have to be a large area.. I’ve been hunting about 6 seasons now, and am looking to get more involved in the hunting community. (It’s never been a tradition in my family I had to teach myself a lot the hard way,) more importantly I’d like to teach my son what I’ve learned in the field and save him some mistakes later but I worry about other public land hunters in the area. The amounts of bullet holes and shells in areas paint a pretty clear picture about who frequents them. I have land 2.5 hours away in smithville, it doesn’t work for a day trip with my son but we visit about 2 times a year. Any recommendations folks?
  4. Here's a New York turkey hunt that should get your blood flowing! Hope ya'll enjoy my newest episode! If you like what you see, please subscribe to my YouTube Channel! Cross Over the River Outdoors! #ItsHuntingTimeOlBuck #Ozonics #DeadRinger #Tactacam #NewYorkTurkeyHunt #huntingvideo
  5. Hey everyone. With everyone in lock down mode, i'm sure most of you are spending your time watching hunting videos, or thinking about this upcoming spring turkey season. To get you pumped up for the upcoming spring season, I've attached 1 of my YouTube videos from last spring! Now this hunt isn't in NY. This hunt was on the opening morning of the Pennsylvania season. The exciting thing about this hunt is this was the first turkey that i've ever shot with a bow! Something that i've always wanted to do! This is also a two part episode to my PA season, so be sure to watch them both!. Hope ya'll like the video, and that ya'll watch the rest of the videos on my channel! There's also some great whitetail hunting videos as well! After you watch the videos, if you like what you see, would you please subscribe to my YouTube channel and share it with your hunting buddies!? I'm trying to build this channel up and actually make something of it! It would be greatly appreciated! Leave a comment and let me know what you think! God bless and stay healthy!

  9. Hello All, Just thought I would drop a message saying 'thank you' for the add and hoping that you all have great luck and stay safe this (and all) seasons. I enjoy the outdoors and decided to get licensed last year. I'm new to the game but always looking to learn and try things. If anyone ever feels like they want to teach a thing or two, I'm open to invites to outings. I've got 4 kids to feed and I'm hoping to put some food on the table and enjoy some relaxation out of the office. I welcome all tips and tricks! First question is opinion - your preferred caliber for hunting deer and black bear (and why)... one rifle & caliber to cover both animals... and... go! Thanks!
  10. Hey everyone I'm knew to the sport and looking to learn as much as I can. I was suppost to go up to sterling with a friend of a friend but the guy had been dodging me. So I've decided that I will head to sterling or Stewart forest by my self this Monday 10/09/17 and wing it. Maybe walk around with my bow and see if get lucky. Worst case scenario I get good excerside out of it. If anyone could help out either teaming up or letting me know where to go I would greatly appreciate it. Also if anybody knows of a butcher and the prices so I can take my deer when I harvest one. I live in NYC even tho I would love to see my neighbors faces as I carry a deer from my car to the 5th fl of my building I don't think it will work out. thanks in advance for any help and for taking the time to read my post

  13. Hello, I just discovered this forum. I have never hunted before. I just recently got my hunting license and took my hunting and bowhunter courses. We are in the midst of spring turkey season and I was really looking for a mentor/partner to guide me so I don't miss the season. I live in rensselaer county in rensselaer but am willing to travel to you for the sake of public/private land. I am very much a subsistence hunter right now (I would like to use the meat/animal I kill) but may eventually go for trophies (still want to use the animal though). I am very willing to learn everything there is about each of the seasons and animals and about field dressing. I was hoping I could get someone to go out with before the spring turkey season ends. I am mainly available weekend mornings but can move my weekdays around a little if needed.

  16. All right, so I'm new to hunting Turkey. I've spent the last 2 weekends up in the Adirondacks looking for them. I see these things all along Rte 28 during my numerous drives up to the Adirondacks, but I've never seen them on hikes and certainly never during any of my hunts up there. So what I am missing here? As I understand it (someone please correct me if I'm wrong), the general idea behind fall turkey hunting is to find a big group of them, break them and then hide out and ambush them as they regroup. I've heard bringing a dog along to help with the break up is sometimes helpful. I've heard calls are sometimes used as well, but they seem to be more relied upon in the spring season, when they aren't as grouped up. 1) So where do I look for Turkeys, especially in an area as big as the ADK's? I've spent some time going down old (no longer active) logging/hunting roads and trails. Sometimes I head off the trail to move through some brush in an attempt to flush anything out of hiding. 2) Is the weather and foliage optimal for fall turkey hunting? I've noticed that the weather this time of year is a bit warmer than usual. As well the foliage has only just now started to turn. In fact, when I was moving through the woods today, a lot of the foliage was not only still on the trees but still very green, making it very hard to see very far in any direction. With all the racket I make stepping on dead leaves, I feel like I'm bumping and scaring away any potential game well before I see them. 3) Should I be using a Turkey call, even for the fall season? 4) Do Turkey like moving in the rain? It's been fairly wet this weekend so far, almost a constant drizzle. Is hunting for Turkey in the rain worth it? I know some game species prefer to say put in rainy weather. 5) Is ambush or calling pretty much the only way to hunt Turkey? I've heard that Turkey have amazing eyesight as well as hearing. So head-to-toe camo and stealth seem to be essential. I just have a hard time sitting still in some place like the ADK's. It's a big area, and wildlife isn't nearly as abundant here as some people think it is. If I don't pick the right spot, I could be doing a whole lot of sitting without seeing a single animal (I know from experience). Anyways, those are just a few questions/issues I was trying to work through. I figure if some more experience Turkey hunters on this site offered some feedback, we might be able to get a helpful dialogue going for myself and other hunters new to Turkey.

  24. Hey guys I had a quick question that I cant find a clear answer out on the DEC website. My little sister is finally getting her hunting license this year. She will be doing a combo course for Hunting and Bow in March. Now my question, is she allowed to sit in a blind with me for spring turkey? She would obviously not be hunting, nor even holding a bow, just to sit and accompany me while getting used to sitting in a blind for hours. I know she obviously doesn't have 2014/2015 tags so I just want to make sure its okay for her to sit with me. I thought it would be a good way to break her into sitting quietly in the spring rather than in the fall when she will be purchasing a 2015/2016 license. If you could help me out I would really appreciate it.
  25. I am looking for a recommendation for a one-day turkey hunt from a reputable guide. My fiance and I moved out here a few years ago and have gotten into hunting. We have not be really successful. For Christmas I'd love to purchase a guided hunt for the spring Turkey season. We are located in Erie county but have no issue driving an hour or two. This would just be for him. Thank you!!
