A few here have made the claim it doesn't help the country.

  • Grouse changed the title to The left's claim lowering taxes only benefits the rich, is economic ignorance.

The left demonizes billionaires (except Soros) and deny the trickle down concept.  Here is the simple explanation of how these billionaires contribute to the economy versus the average american:

1) 24/7/365 security = multiple jobs

2) Multiple houses = multiple property taxes, managers to maintain them, landscapers, staff, etc etc = multiple jobs

3) Mega yachts = mega dollars spent, on materials, building, maintaining, docking, fueling, etc etc = multiple jobs

4) Bezos new yacht that needs the bridge taken down = jobs to remove AND jobs to put bridge back at HIS expense

5) Private jets = same as boats = multiple jobs

6) They compete one upping each other so all the above and more happens over and over.

Billionaires pump millions into the economy.

They sure do,but it would be interesting to see what %of their income is pumped back into the economy compared to the average middle class household.

Then you would have to wonder if we would be better off with a bigger middle class or more billionaires?

What is middle class? I consider myself middle class.....@chef pays more in property taxes than i do in all my taxes combined. I don't know for sure but I'm guessing he considers himself middle class.

The millionaires and billionaires provide jobs for the middle class. Unless you work for the government, then we all provide your job. If you work for a private business, even a relatively small one like i do, there is most likely a millionaire at the top. If you work for a large private business, there is most likely a billionaire at the top. The taxes that billionaire provides, isn't just all the taxes, he pays, it's all the taxes his business pays and all the taxes his employees pay...

Middle class is something that cannot be precisely defined in America because it varies by regional economics.  Further, whether different economic classes pay their "fair" share of taxes is based on the tax codes/laws which the politicians themselves write and the IRS can audit.  The left politicians love to foment hate against the wealthy & successful (divisive identity politics!) but never does anything to create paths for the "poor" to lift them out of poverty.  The path is education and trade skills but the Left Pols want them kept uneducated and unemployable, they then vote for them and the cycle repeats itself.

I get it,this is America and one better not question the super wealthy folks contribution to the economy. They don't generally have people working for them to give the people something to do,it is for their own wealth. Of course stuff trickles down in the process. But is there a point where it becomes obscene to own that much?

Not in most of your guys books.

I am not talking about millionaires here, but a percentage of the top 1%.

Nope, not if they achieved it within the rules of the law and pay the taxes that are in the tax code that our politicians created.  Does anyone pay more taxes than they have too? Of course not.  I'm sure most of them make very generous donations to worthy causes. Maybe they don't. I don't know. It is none of my business what they do with their money and nobodies business what i do with mine.

Now what i do have a problem with is people like the Bidens that have become enormously wealthy by selling out our country and citizens. That is disgusting to me and there isn't a hole in hell large enough for them.

The largest earners in NYS pay 10.9% of state income tax and 37% of federal income tax. If they live in NYC they pay another 3.9%. So they are already paying, 47.9-51.8% of their income in taxes. This doesn't include any property taxes or sales tax these people have paid either. This is without Bidens proposed increases.  That to me is insane! Who has the right to take half of someones legally earned income?  How much do you think they should take? 75%? 90%.

What is fair share to a socialist? What is a rich person to a socialist?

53% of households didn't pay anything in taxes last year. That to me is also disgusting. If you earn something, you should pay something, certainly not 50% but something.

What would your proposal be hypothetically, of course to fix that supposed problem Mike? Would you advocate putting a cap on the amount that earners can make in a given year? If so, very bad idea in my book!

I'm guessing he wants the world utopia where we are all even with nothing while our rulers have it all. (Oligarchs)

So you want to draw a line/point where it is obscene to own "that much".  To a jobless uneducated American subsistence living in a dirt floor shack in the deep south YOU (with knowing your income or status) have crossed it!!!!

That is the problem with judging and drawing lines.

When you realize the historical data proves higher taxes produce less total revenue for the government, higher taxes serve no purpose other than to limit the amount of money any one individual can have.  High taxes on the rich is a way to cap total income.

This is the preferred method of taxation used by the left.  Why would the left in government want to do that, knowing it will cause the Treasury to take in less total tax revenue afterwards?

Could it be because leftists see a man with "too much money" as seriously dangerous to their socialistic plans?

Haha, money can do no wrong. And you think i am a sheep. The irony is not lost on me.

Money can do no wrong?  ABSOLUTELY CORRECT!   Money (and guns) are incapable of doing right or wrong.  It is how PEOPLE use them that can be right or wrong.

Exactly and that's why a socialist needs to take your hard earned money, because their not weak and will use it for the benefit of the masses, not buying frivolous things a weak person would buy, like Yachts, cars and other toy's.

Commie money

You not just a sheep, your a slave sheep.

You need to shed the sheep mentality, before you can start on the path to becoming a free thinking person.

My proposal is simple:

10-15% across the board no matter who you are and no matter what you make. If the mega rich were made to pay the same percentage rate I pay, that's a win. At the same time, I pay less. That's win-win in my book and nobody can complain.

Why do you find that ironic , then? :dontknow:

Just that they thought a good way to express how independent and non conformist was to spend money to buy the same shirt as their other non conformist friends, and then coordinate so that all wore the same shirt at the same time. Maybe I’m the only one who sees irony in that?
Additionally, I’ve always found the whole adults comparing themselves to animals (lions, alphas, etc.) to be a bit childish at best. But hey, who am I to judge what makes someone feel good about themselves?
