We've talked already, but feel free to PM me with any questions. Unfortunately, deer hunting-wise, my father and I have access to small 8 acre piece of property where we can't bring anybody else with us.

However, I can give you some detailed info regarding the DEP land we talked about.

I hunt various spots throughout Putnam and Orange county. I try to change it up and hunt different areas but if the actions hot, I'll keep hitting that spot for a bit.

I'm in Putnam on Oscawanna Lake. I have a few public land spots picked out. Haven't seen a ton of deer sign or deer for that matter, but the mountain laurel hides them pretty well. Looking for some piece and quiet more than anything. It will be my first season around here, so I'm sure it will be an adventure. Let me know if you'd like to run around sometime...shotgun or muzzleloader. I'll be in tree next Archery Season for sure!

A bunch...but a lot of them are taking a break to hunt big game season.

Yep, I hunt small game, but during deer season, small game takes the back seat.

Same here, I'm after coons and coyotes as well but after deer season of course. I'm in Wingdale/Dover area

Same thing goes for trapping, but thats only because the land owner where I trap dosent like me to set any until after the season.

Lots of small game hunting, squirrels and pheasant in NY, rabbit and grouse in PA

bkln, do you coon hunt with a dog or do you try to call them in? How's the success?

FoxPro baby !!! :-) when you get the right call they come running, mostly at night I just started coons last year but that's a lot of fun

That's what I'm planning on using. Just haven't actually tried it yet so just checking that it works. You use the coon fight or, baby coon, or some sort of distress call?

I don't plan to start until after late MZ so while I'm squirrel and deer hunting, I'm checking out for any signs. That's what determines where I go. Again, for me, it's all theory since I planning on applying it.

I have the club property in Hyde Park and state land all over the place after the deer season, it gets quiet after the season and 909 at night is not a bad place to be (DEC stops by sometimes but that's about it). Yeah Elmo, coon fight works well....
