A guy at work was showing me pic's of turkeys flocking in his yard 10 hens and 3 big males this morning 2/20/13.The males already faned out strutting seems a be a bit early to me.

What do you all think?

fanning is just a show of dominance...turkeys fan and gobble all year....they strutt...display and fight during breeding season

Those toms are just big show offs. Hope one shows off in front of me, come May 1st or so, LOL.

Just turkeys being turkeys... hens can hold sperm for almost 30 days, most breeding takes place in late march and april. (Thats why we don't have season then. Much to the horror of some hunters who hear them gobble like crazy in april and feel we should hunt them then.) By the time may comes you hope for a second peak of breeding activity from hens that have lost nests...

I have seen turkeys in the cornfield behind my house fanned out every week since deer season has closed.I fell its like a buck grunting.They do what they do,but when its time they will be really ready

Driving along the LIE and Sunrise Highway, they're out there in packs. A friend of mine saw some big boys at the Suffolk County Fire Academy. I'm getting pumped up to hopefully get out there this year. But to me, although I'm not an experienced hunter at all, I'd say this is just nature taking its course and mother nature driving us crazy.
