HuntOrBeHunted
NEWINGTON, Conn. – Customers packed gun stores around Connecticut on Tuesday ahead of a vote expected to bring sweeping changes to the state's gun control laws, including a ban on the sale of large-capacity ammunition magazines like the ones used in the Newtown shooting and a new classification for more than 100 types of guns as banned assault weapons. Lawmakers have touted the legislation expected to pass the General Assembly on Wednesday as the toughest in the country. Some measures would take effect right away, including the expansion of the state's assault weapons ban, universal background checks for all firearms sales, and a ban on the sale or purchase of ammunition magazines holding more than 10 rounds. The bill also addresses mental health and school security measures in response to the massacre. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, a Democrat, supports the bill and could sign it into law as soon as Wednesday night. Doc
Each state is competing with the next to have the most draconian and repressive gun laws in the country. They are treating it as a badge of honor. And it remains to be seen whether any of them will pay any kind of political price for their gleeful attacks on the 2nd Amendment. I just hope that the gun owners have the resolve, and the memory to make these people pay at the polls. I fear that when the elections come around, other issues will have grabbed the attention of gun owners and they will forget how their rights have been trampled by these people. One thing that gun organizations have to focus on when election time comes is to educate gun owners about how to identify their legislators, and also publish the voting record on this one specific law (now in both states). I know the NRA has a rating system that shows up around election time. But I want to see them highlight these particular voting records specifically as something specific that has a good chance of standing out in the memories of gun owners. These politicians have to pay!
WNYBuckHunter
I just heard on the news that the politicians in CT did it just like in NY. Signed it in the middle of the night, and the Gov will be signing it today. Disgusting. I just hope that the lawsuits are successful and this nonsense is promptly stuck down, as it should be. I don't know, seems like they have been talking about it for a bit in CT. Here in NY, we didn't really think it would happen like that. We knew there were rumblings about some sweeping changes but didn't really think that it would happen. Being that we were the first state to enter into this horse shiit I'd say we were blind sided. CT folks got it stuck in slowly..........

joe12
Once again, a law passed which preys upon the uninformed that has nothing to do with keeping people safe. I disagree with the magazine size restrictions, but I can at least understand the logic and the other side's arguement. However, the banning of the "military-style assault rifles" based purely on appearance and cosmetic features makes absolutely no sense and reveals their true intentions. How can the banning of one weapon that is functionally the exact same as a less menacing-looking legal weopon improve safety? Couldn't the criminals just grab the same caliber semi-auto hunting rifle and accomplish the same thing? We all know the answer to this. The politicians (with the help of the media) have convinced the uninformed public that these are military machine guns, and took advantage to eliminate a large class of firearms. They will continue to chip away at the list over time, and before long we will only be able to own single shot weapons.
Mr VJP
Even if every gun owner in the state voted against every politician that voted to take away our 2nd Amendment rights, we would still be out numbered by the idiot electorate, that knows nothing about firearms, except that they fear them. We are beyond elections on this issue. Our only hope now is in the courts.

Doc
Yeah we got it worse, but its still pretty underhanded to sign things through at 2am. No reason for it. Andy showed the world the new way to get stuff past their constituents. It works. He published the blueprint. And I'm afraid that gun owners are so apathetic that the process will be copied all over the place without the appropriate punishments of the politicians that went along with it. They're getting away with it folks and expect the process to be used on all kinds of issues besides guns and ammo.

No. If properly inspired, we could rally a solid block of voters all voting the same way. let's face it, people in general don't vote. Not gun owners and not the rest of the populace. Whoever can conjure up the most emotion, and passion and solidify their base will determine the outcome of the election. Yes, a minority can influence elections when properly motivated and focused. It's time for the NRA and the other gun organizations to work their magic and unify and incite the gun owner voters. They have to be shown that their legislative activities have consequences. This is a whole lot bigger than just the gun issue. It's all about training politicians that they serve us or else. By the way there's nothing wrong with a little court action either .... lol.
