We are basically at a point where no new user can join. I don't think the owner will ever read this, but I do hope he knows there's a few offers on the table to buy the forum and it would be nice if he doesn't want to maintain it, to hand it off to someone who would.

+1. Can @WNYBuckHunter call @burmjohn?

Be careful what you wish for, he might just bag the site if he isnt interested anymore and people are calling him about it.
i asked John and Eddie about contacting him a year ago and they also said they dont hear back from him.
Then someone who would actually deliver shirts members ordered may finally run things

yeah maybe.... but no one has started their own site yet that im aware of and i know this one is still here for now.

And if a new one was started thats similiar to Bowsite or AT i would prob loose interest.  I prefer the way this one is setup over any ive seen.

Offers were made to purchase/take over the site yet they fell on deaf ears. I too enjoy the format of things for the most part. A more active ownership/ability to make changes ie let in members would be excellent

yes im aware and agree.  But like i said it hasnt happened yet.  And if someone wanted to start their own site no one was stopping them.  Until a better offer comes around , im glad its here.  My guess is its more likely that if this one closes no one else starts another one successfully or has the feel of this one.  Just being thankful its still here at all.

The Owner of njwoodsandwaters has shown interest. That site is Identical  to this one.  Problem  is- we would all have to start with Zero content count.

So..  realistically, what's the big deal about content count?

Would members leave or not sign up if there wasn't?  Doubtful.

Rather have a smooth running site, with owner active or mods that have power to make changes.

Yeah, I was a member on a car forum that went out of production. It was very active and then most of us moved on to new cars but we hung out in the off topic section for years to shoot the shit and then one day. poof. site wasn't there anymore.

So one of these interested buyers start a new site and we all move........

I think for some of us less IT savvy folks, and even the IT savvy folks it's a lot of work. You need to build up the user database, drive traffic etc. It'd be better to agree on a sale price and transfer ownership. When you don't even have the ability to add new users, I can't imagine the ad revenue is all that high.

I saw a car forum split once and honestly it was a niche car that was only built for 2 years and it really divided the community and kind of sucked overall.

I know I'm not everyones best bud and either is Chef, but both him and I have expressed interest as well. Honestly I wouldn't change a thing except to curtail some of the political stuff. It wouldn't be a political ban, just a single thread (like the woods, beer, dinner etc) threads for those who want to argue stuff.

Otherwise I like the structure and I'd just keep things more updated. Wouldn't ban a single person who is active.

With all due respect to the nj guy, I think this forum should be run by someone from NY, not NJ.

I'm thinking more out loud here... the only real easy way to move to another site is to advertise the site move here to move current members. We run a risk of losing the site at any moment... a little research shows cost ~$2k a year. Not something I'd want to tackle during the season. But I'm going to look into it.

If I get banned, well you know why haha. I can't even come back as a new user either. But maybe this could get the owners attention?

Accepting mod applications now haha. Also creative folks who can create an image/logo... because you know... shirts and stuff haha.

Not a IT guy, obviously a site like this cost money to maintain. What is that cost?

Belo mentioned 2k a yr.  But is that just basic stuff? What about upgrades to software. If the owner of this site is MIA, wouldn't the software be outdated, and issues arise shortly thereafter? It seems to be running smoothly as far as software, so I'm thinking the owner has to be maintaining the site to some degree even if he's not present or involved in the forum..

This is like PGA vs. LIV Tour.

I'm all for free agency, and anyone can be bought.

I'm all ears. Who will pay me the most to join?

On a serious note, I would miss my journals. I make one each year here and look back at them often.

From what I see this board is setup to basically run itself with modest moderation. What some are not taking into account is overall traffic. The boards registered member only account for maybe one third of it's traffic. Traffic is what creates revenue and I think there is plenty enough traffic to pay the board's bills.

I also think the closure of open registration was due to a huge amount of spam that was on the board every morning screwing up hundreds of threads and having the moderators go through all that crap and remove it.

The board owner does not have to log in to visit and see what is going on, I am betting he visits a lot more that some think.

Bottom line it is his board and he can run it as he sees fit and apparently he is OK with the way things are going.

I also am thinking Cynthia is having a password problem, I can tell you that if one forgets their password it is not able to be retrieved even by the boards administrator, it is a security thing to protect members so write it down.

As for me I like the board just the way it is, but unlike some here I do have a life and am not on here posting thousands of posts 24-7

All one has to do is log off or visit on a different device and they will just be shown as a guest. This is an open board, just click on it's web address and anyone can read the content without having to be a registered member.

Personally, I am not concerned  about content count. Others may be.

I am a member of njwoodsandwaters. I am not hard to find over there.

Owner and mods make money by enabling ads.
