Took a afternoon sit behind the house.... no deer but deafening noise from a flock of crow up on the lease land...I've never seen nor heard that many before....alarm vibrated and I packed it up for the day...the dogs just started to barked...so I'm sure there moving past right now....figures...

I moved a stand mid day and Mr. B saw nothing in the area on his way home...so I will try it in the morning and see if it changed their movement or not...it is against a tree that has a massive wild rose growing up it....even with pruners...I'm a pin cushion right now ...So the stands ladder is well hidden...the rose extends 4 ft out all around the base and gradually goes to 2ft up by the stand seat....

Hey Grows, that would

Be "A murder of Crows", lol. I've always loved that :)

Love my wife and her super flexible job, just got the word that I have permission to hunt this afternoon.

I'll be out the door at 1:30, out of the truck by 2 and slowly stalking my way to this years best stand....no coincidence it's good for heavy S, SSW wind.

I know she is awesome and works from home 75% of the time, the trade off has been about a week a month of cross country and sometimes international travel.

Couldn't hunt last week from sun-thurs because she was in RI and I'm day/nightcare for our son, but that was the last trip of 2013.

Ha was going to get down did a last look around and see something behind me along creek. Yup flathead had a couple shot ops but saw another and was trying to judge size and what each was. Never had another good shot as they very slowly fed up creek bottom. Watched them for 50 minutes and HAD to get to work so snuck down and out with them still 100 yards off. Stupid work!! lol Should not complain I got it pretty flexible and work from home. Made it with 8 minutes to spare before a conf. call and then get a call it is pushed back 30 minutes!

Finally have a perfect wind to sit in my newly set gun stand overlooking two of our food plots. You can see them here, seperated by the strip of thick brush in the middle. I've been getting pretty consistent evening pics of does in the plot to the right. There hasn't been much in the way of shooter bucks at this farm this year so I'm just looking to punch a dmp tonight.

It's official..The hunting Gods/Ma  nature have had it in for me since bow season...I have been resting the knee but went out for boundary walk with the gun and bino's this morning...supper highways in too places...fresh tracks going up and down....got back at noon and decided to feed chickens and hit the other property...stalked up on a spike and watched him a while then backed out and went down to the steam stand in middle of hill...climbed up and sat for a few glassing a bedding area on the crest of a deep drop below me...out come 4 doe...no range finder but I had estimated 75 yrds...the biggest stepped into and opening before stream crossing and stopped the gun resting on rail I shoot...deer everywhere...wait awhile and watch more deer moving through...get down snow kicked up a 1ft behind where she stood...WTH...

After the first low miss on the 12pt I went out and shot a few rounds...2in high and I was pulling 1-3 in to the rt...still would be in kill area...bead sights...disgusted I head back up hill very slow......go to blind to shut windows and standing on second rung from top see movement over the porch railing...figure its the spike...no a nice 6pt...he's feeding my way..I stood on that rung for10minutes...everything hurts now...but 85yrds out he turns broad side to  go down on the neighbors,,,so I lean against side of blind and rest gun on railing...I aim a bit higher...bam...he kicks and runs when I see the spike running too....down on neighbors and they stop in a thick briar/rose patch..Finally..so I'm glassing them when the spike bolts down hill and the 6pt follows...but the spike dropped over the saddle and I'm watching for the 6...nothing..call neighbor..by the way a 10 was taken off his place...and go to where I last saw them...found the tracks and tracked back...figured if I hit him that would give me the blood story.....No blood track back to where I shot at him and there is the dirt and snow kicked up..in a straight line between his hoof prints...disgusted I call neighbor and head home walk past a big stump next to trail pace off 80yrds and aim for the middle of stump...hit dead on...

So it's official...ma nature...hunting Gods what ever!..ever since I pasted that 8pt in archery ...I could drive a truck through a herd of deer...and not hit one!!!!

      Hi Everyone,
It is current the last week for regular season in upstate NY. Living the life working and being a full time student, I have some time off this week and would like to take a ride upstate to do a gun hunt. Never have I hunted public land in the areas 3 G, F, or N and was looking for some recommendations and help! I had used the DEC info locator and found California Hill and thought I might go there. Is there any recommendations on areas to go to in any of the wmu’s? Or on California? Any help would be really appreciated!!

      best of holiday wishes!

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      Hi Everyone,
My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!
