Lots of activity today, actually it has been the most exciting day of the season for me thus far. They were traveling around in groups on the property I hunt-- 6+ in a gang. Most of the natural movement was from 9-noon here. I put my husband in a good spot, hoping as always for him to get a crack at his first deer. Well, this time it paid off but something went wrong and he blistered a tree instead of the buck. At least it was a for sure clean miss... nothing like a slug blister on a tree. Now I am not sure if his scope is off or if he was full of nerves... it was his first shot at a deer. I'll give him my gun tomorrow to play it safe.

Hunted from dawn 'till dusk. It got very cold and windy in the afternoon, it was all we could do to keep warm enough to stay out.

arg... went to the usual evening spot (where all the pressure was last week). Nobody hunted there this AM, I wish I did. Upon walking in this afternoon I discovered some huge tracks coming from where I usually set up my climber. Decided to follow them towards where I believe they bed down and wait and ambush them if they decided to come back. no dice. Pondering on where to sit tomorrow.

Out this afternoon, cold and quiet. Heard my friend shoot, texted me a big doe so I went to help him out. When we got to the deer it was very big, except it was a buck with both sides shed off. Dressed and weighed 145lbs. Why are the antlers falling so soon?? He was kinda bummed about it being a buck but really, what could he do.

Crazy...I swear I had a bald buck under my stand with his nose in my bag of scents this past Wednesday morning.

When I saw the body in the distance I swore it was a buck, but as it approached my tree I saw it was bald... It was 6:45 am and pretty dark so I could only see no antlers, I did not make out shed wounds, but the deer was not acting like a doe.

Others have already found shed antlers this season.

The one side was scabbed and clearly old, the other was fresh. I'm contemplating walking his tracks tomorrow to try and find it. It was still wet and bright red.

It's unusual for them to be dropping this early right? Or have I just lost my mind?

Just back from a nice AM hunt. Parked at about 6:20ish, and a trruck whips over and a hunter gets out. I have met him before hunting up there. He said he has seen the big one three times. He saw it Tuesday heading down towards my stand. He said it has a 24"+ spread and is absolutely enormous! Sat this AM and had a big doe come in looking over shoulder in the bushes. She wandered around and eventually a smaller doe came out. I was hoping he was dogging her but no luck. He's still out there!  I gotta finish getting my muzzleloading gear in order so I can get out this afternoon.

Husband is sick today so I am home taking care of him. Sad to miss the last day but I am still thankful for my thanksgiving doe and all the time in the woods. I didn't see a single buck this year during open season. Maybe next year. Good luck to the archery and smoke pole guys out there!!

You know, one of the deer I saw yesterday was acting like a buck. Huge bodied 'doe', long face. Makes me wonder! I never got a good look at the top of the head so it's hard to say.

Soooo cold this morning! I took a sleeping bag to the ground blind with me, which probably smelled like the closet of the spare bedroom. :girlsigh: But at least I had a few hours in the woods to close out the season. Unless I'm crazy enough to attempt to bow hunt in the cold that is forcasted, I'm done. The freezer is not empty. But it's not as full as I'd like. Amazed by the lack of deer this year.

A friend of mine and I have been out since this morning. Saw a few this morning but no shots. Now we are sitting over the last field of corn on the farm. The farmers combining it. About a half hour ago three does popped out ahead of the combine I put one of them on the ground. Sitting until the end of the day hoping to get maybe one more.

      Hi Everyone,
It is current the last week for regular season in upstate NY. Living the life working and being a full time student, I have some time off this week and would like to take a ride upstate to do a gun hunt. Never have I hunted public land in the areas 3 G, F, or N and was looking for some recommendations and help! I had used the DEC info locator and found California Hill and thought I might go there. Is there any recommendations on areas to go to in any of the wmu’s? Or on California? Any help would be really appreciated!!

      best of holiday wishes!

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      Hi Everyone,
My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!
