live from my kitchen window this morning. hard to tell with the zoomed in iphone, but there were 2 mature doe and 2 fawns eating the apples. Not including my headless target (fell off in the wind). One of those bastards was in my pumpkin patch! haha

Well I ended up having 6 or 7 does and a few fawns come running out 30 yards to my left just before sunset, and one of the does gave me a nice, ever so slight quartering to shot. I rewarded her with a 125 grain tipped carbon injection right through both lungs and the center of her heart. She took off and i heard her crash 30 yards away in the thick stuff off to the left in the pic i posted earlier. It was a good night! Pics in the success thread...

Congrats WNY

Stop pulling your phone out of your pocket and making movement. What did you eat/drink for dinner last night and breakfast this morning? They can smell you a mile away! Should have brushed your teeth unscented this morning.

Congrats....well I screwed up...been waiting for a good sized doe...first I had a buck and doe fawn hang under the stand eating honey suckle and dogwood brush...then a yearling doe 50 yrds away eating Apple's....unfortunately another yearling came in head on...but I just wasn't' sure if it was a adult or fawn from the angle...it wasn't' until I let her leave and she met up with the other doe does it becomes apparent...not 20 min. later another young doe came in...but she was smaller than the first 2.  So yet another pass....I should have taken that 2nd. Doe......10yrds  away eating...Oh well

I was in a stand on some state land near a bedding area this afternoon, nothing happening so I tried a little soft rattling. Surprised to see a doe come in almost immediately, spike buck behind her. Took a 20 yrd quartering away shot at her and put her down. I've never practiced anywhere near as much as this last summer with my bow and let me tell you it was worth every hour. Shot was totally automatic, squating down to avoid limbs and te placement was spot on for the type of shot, heard her go down from the stand. Felt great knowing that the kill was quick and clean. I filmed that spike buck for a while afterwards as well.

Just got back in...perfect morning...learned a few things...the night vision...not so good anymore...and it's a little scary when you can't see your hand in front of your face  as you try to sound like a little critter...Then there are sounds of the four legged kind trotting in on you...glad I was very near the stand...

On my walk in I past an apple tree and stomped a few ...hit the mowed trail to a downed beech that blocked the trail to the stand...having heard critters on way in I decided to do the leaf litter scuffle and added a few pawing sounds to it as I made my way to the stand...I no sooner strapped in and pulled up the bow I could hear the distinct gate of a deer slowly following my trail...I couldn't see a thing!...but as he passed by what I know were my shooting lanes he grunted...I was so pleased!!...for I figured he had been on the ridge bedded down when I past...the wind had been perfect and Id heard some movement up there..

I picked this stand for it is half way between the ag fields and my oak flats ...and is usually ..for years... the morning route..I'd seen deer the other day making their way into the gully which is part of the route..Well not today and I fear there's been a route change...for I watched deer after deer.... buck..doe..fawns piling out of the gully and walking 20 yrds off my property line100-120 yrds away...The good thing is..... most then took an angle which I know takes them across our place and into the swamps...I hunted that stand the night before last...so I'll try a morning there tomorrow...yet another good thing is.... they are not moving...with the exception of that single buck...until 8am and there were a few good bodied bucks in the group..

Now the GREAT thing is... at 8:30 the corn choppers came in and I believe there are 2 crews up cutting the corn as I type...silage which means down to dirt...that should have them coming on to us more...perfect timing if I do say so....

Went out last nite for a bit. Dad got a doe, friend hit an 6 or 8 pt in the rear...arrow went in about 2 inches. Tracked on pin drops for close to 200 yards. He went back this morning to the last blood and continued the search....nothing. my son an i got busted by the same two does. Its personal now! Gonna manicure my ground spot and try an evening hunt.

      Hi Everyone,
It is current the last week for regular season in upstate NY. Living the life working and being a full time student, I have some time off this week and would like to take a ride upstate to do a gun hunt. Never have I hunted public land in the areas 3 G, F, or N and was looking for some recommendations and help! I had used the DEC info locator and found California Hill and thought I might go there. Is there any recommendations on areas to go to in any of the wmu’s? Or on California? Any help would be really appreciated!!

      best of holiday wishes!

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      Hi Everyone,
My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!
