yes unfortunately stuff like this happens its the worst a hunter want to go through but usually when you gut shot a deer you should never go to find it right away it definitely take longer for a deer to expire with a gut shot and if you don't wait long enough that deer will just keep running when it hears you coming. if its going to rain in the morning that sticks because you have no choice to look but my advice grab a couple of guys with lights and go searching but like i said if you didn't wait long enough to go and track the odds are you might never find that doe good luck and be safe

Good job, good read. Props for not giving up and going back out to find him. In my 7th year of hunting and still every time a deer comes out for me I know that exact feeling you have of the heart pounding through your ears. The feeling has slowly decreased in time for me though. First couple years it would stay like that up to 30 seconds, now it's more like a 1-2 second spurt and then I settle in.

I like to marinate it in Italian dressing.  Let it stand overnight then barbecue it FAST AND HOT.  Don't overcook it.  Comes out great.

Congrats on finding him too....  great job and love the story.

soak it in buttermilk over night. Then in a cast iron skillet fry it in hot bacon fat. Get it as hot as possible and sere both sides then reduce heat covered for another 5 - 7 minutes until it's crispy on the edges. If you have any roast cook them in a crock pot on low for 8 hours with potatoes carrots celery and McCormick  season mix. A steak you can cut up in to cubes and put in a crock pot with Campbells cream of mushroom soup. 1 can per pound of cubes. serve on top of egg noodles Venison strogonoff.

Did you get the butcher's cut? The 2 small loins that ley up against the spine on the body cavity side. Those are the best cuts on a deer and the butchers usually keep them. You can pull them out with your fingers after you gut the deer.

oh man finally just had the back straps last night with some friends. Grilled em up and had two marinated in teriyaki and the other two were plain salt and pepper. Gotta say the plain ones were better then the marinated ones! UNBELIEVABLE! SO damn good its not even funny. So cool to be able to harvest an animal that tastes that friggin amazing! We all enjoyed the hell out of em and it was a really good time!

Hey Everyone! This is Louis Backlas/ Cross Over the River Outdoors. I just posted a new video to my YouTube channel that I though ya'll might get a kick out of! Have you ever used a decoy to hunt whitetails? If you haven't before you might want to start! I woke up one morning and look out my front window only  to find that my 3D deer target was in pieces all over the front lawn! A fired up buck decided to take his frustrations out on the target!  this took place sometime in November during the peek of the rut. Hope ya'll get a kick out of it!

Just wanted to post a video of one of my successful bow hunts this year. Something about documenting your hunt and self filming adds even more of a rewarding feeling to a bow harvest when it all comes together. *Disclaimer*  I don't think I'm a "pro" nor am I trying to be just love filming and tinkering around with the editing. The audio on the video from my second doe harvest is much better than this one, I figured out a few tricks with the editing software recently and I'll have that one done by the weekend. You can skip through the talking parts if you want the shot happens around the 3:20 mark.
