First frost of the yr.

Had 32° this morning. First frost last year was September 19th.  Was mainly elevated surfaces, but my hot tub cover had some on it, so I'm sure there were areas that had frost on the ground.  Shop roof and 4 wheeler seat were solid frost.

Thought we'd get our first frost here in northern Adirondacks. Woke up 40 degrees. No frost. We'll take it.

Only thing I don't like about the first frost is it means leaf cleanups are not far behind. Make good money doing them, but man it gets friggin old quick.

My hunting area definitely got a good coverage of frost.  Unfortunately it got a good covering of yotes too..

Yep got out of work at 7 in Cooperstown and my Jeep had frost on it.

We dodged the frost this morning . Still have  a ton on the pepper plants.  I would Have loved a killing frost on the ragweed.  My allergies  are killing me .

No frost yet here on the far end of WNY, half way between Lake Erie and Ontario.  Those big ponds usually hold that off for quite some time.  Just to be safe, I picked and froze all of our remaining sweetcorn two days ago.  That was the first batch all year, that the coons didn’t wipeout almost completely. 
 

Here is a picture I took yesterday of some of the remnants of that ongoing battle.  (6) adult male coons and one juvenile gave their lives, but managed to destroy about 1/4 acre of sweetcorn.  
 

They were burried nearby, only to be exhumed by coyotes within a few days.  I have to assume the the coyotes took out all of the female and most of the young coons in the area on their own, without the help of me and my traps.  
 

Hopefully, the little coon-free area that we have created here, will lead to some better turkey hunting next year.

Crazy as it sounds the wife and I like the temp of the house to be around 60 degrees ( year round ) , we keep the windows open and love these cooler temps !

Wish the wife liked it cooler. I sleep with just a sheet . She has 3 blankets and a heated mattress pad. In the winter she runs the furnace at 68 and if its real cold its 73. My gas and electric bill is killer.

Don't the midges that cause EHD die with the first frost?

Might not kill them but should slow down the hatch. With the rain and cooler temps it shouldn't be a big problem . But if it warms up  could rebound . As I recall reading on the midge life cycle the mud has to warm up to a certain temp with the right amount of moisture  to cause a hatch.

We got our first heavy frost of season here. Both vehicles windshield froze so heavy frost.
