I've always been a fan of reticles with MOA windage marks along the horizontal centered or main cross hair. elevation can be dialed with rare problems, but that setup allows you hold for windage instead of dialing.  if the wind changes you can quickly adjust compensation. huskemaw, nightforce, and other brands have got that type of reticle.

MOA or mil-dot? Then there's also Mrads... I find the mil-dots to be helpful in slower calibers and airguns for hold-over/under, but for long range precision shooting, it's probably a better idea to use the turrets in a quality trackable scope.

no MOA... a lot of elevation dialing is in MOA and for example I've got an app on my phone called Bullet Flight (the version you pay a bit for) that gives you MOA, inches, and clicks.  when you shoot it's good to not mix MOA, mil-dots, etc.  if you dial elevation in MOA then you should dope wind in MOA.  mil-dots work but it's not a system many hunters are used to.

Vortex has them as well, their Mil Dot reticle on lots of their scopes. They also have the EBR reticle in either MRAD or MOA on the Viper PSTs.

Awesome.  I might have to go that route and buy a Timney myself.  I filed my form through Remington over 2 weeks ago and I still haven't received the box that they want me to use to ship the rifle.  This is just for the shipping box.  It might take months to get this sorted out.

I finally had a chance to get this rifle out and sight it in. Man, what a sweet shooter she is! The trigger is perfect, crisp, smooth and breaks like glass. I picked up Federal Fusion 150 grain ammo, and it shoots sub moa at 100 yards. 3 rounds center to center was just a hair over 3/4 inch. I had a big pile of firewood as a backstop, and I was able to recover some of the rounds. They held together pretty well and mushroomed great. A little deformed, but id expect that going through 8" of apple and maple and into the next chunk of wood. I am going to get my scale out and weigh them to see how much weight they retained.

I am really looking forward to what this rifle will do once i start working hand loads for it. Should be a fun bench gun as well as hunting rig.

The only downside to this rifle, it is LOUD. The muzze brake really makes it bark. I do not want to shoot it too much without hearing protection. Hunting is about it with maybe 1 to 3 shots in a short time. Just 3 shots made my ears ring a bit. Im going to have to apologize to people in advance if i shoot at the gun club under the roof.

It may be tough to find a handload that beats those factory loads.

Those brakes are sure enough LOUD. I had a ported .338 Win Mag that was a real ear blaster.

One thing I do is wear a pair of string connected foam earplugs around my neck. Often when stand hunting, especially in relatively open areas, there is time to put them in before you shoot.

And of course, I never shoot off the bench or practice without hearing protection. I'm already half deaf from shooting and I need to preserve what little hearing that I have left.

Yeah I may have to take my plugs with me when I hunt. If I have time to put them in, I will. If not, well, Ill blast my ears lol.

 

The one thing that really bothers me about the gun, is the stupid Remington finish. Already has a couple of small spots of rust I had to clean off. After the season is over, shes going to get Cerakoted. Im also going to swap the stock out for something a tad nicer.

Good example why I do not buy out of the box rifles anymore for a serious shooter. I just buy an action for the caliber I am going to shoot, have that blue printed with an aftermarket extractor and trigger, order a BBL. with the twist rate for the bullet I am going to shoot and have that chambered and set into the receiver with a lug. Buy an aftermarket stock that I like and bed the action into it. Buy a scope mount and rings for that combo ,put the mounts and rings on and lap the rings in.Mount the scope and sight it in with the loads I made up and see which one it likes.

By the way I did have 2 custom rifles at one time with ceracoat and they held up very well.

Its a fun rifle to tinker with, and I bet Ill still have less money into it than a custom built rig, and its exactly the way I want it to be. I dont really need the aftermarket stock, its already sub-moa, but I like to modify my stuff.

As long as you wear ear protection its no big deal. Its not one of those brakes that puts out a big concussion on each side, and its a bolt gun, so I wont be banging away like that guy with the AR that one day that you wanted to wrap around his head.
