I had an old timer from the Saranac Lake area tell me about the big blow down of 1950 in the Adirondacks, what he described seemed surreal, but it was all true. Happened upon this article describing what happened, sounds like it was really something.

Cool article. I talked to an old timer once who witnessed the fires. My Father inlaw and Brothers were summoned by the Rangers at Indian lake to help fight a fire one hunting season.
