In my late teens and early 20's I was an automotive mechanic then at 23 I bought a franchised business that I owned for 30 years and sold this past October.

Right now I'm fielding offers on on a new occupation. (fielding?  gimme a break............ :) )

I'm retired. Best job I ever had. <<grin>>...

However for 30 years I worked as an engineering technician in the R&D facility for a specialty glass manufacturing company.

Prior to that, I worked as a grocery clerk at an A&P store, served two years active duty on a Navy Destroyer as a postal clerk, and worked a year as a laborer building pallets at a woodworking company.

As a teen = Shopping cart boy, cashier, stock-boy. Then during college years = publishing co in shipping dept, bank teller, law clerk at a law firm during the 1980's real estate boom which then led to law school and a becoming a lawyer for 25 years now handling both sides of personal injury cases (plaintiff and defense). Almost ended up in the fur manufacturing business during college but was very glad that did not happen.

I am the printing and graphic arts department for a public school district for the last ten years. Before that, twenty five plus years in commercial printing. And before that went to Nashville to make it in the music business. Singing and playing guitar did not pay the bills, so had to get a real job. lol......

I was in the fur business in college myself, but it was more of a hobby than a job...<<smile>>...

At various times over the last 40 years I've been: a trapper, a carpenter, a musician, an architect, a woodworker, a writer, a teacher, a motorcycle racer, a ski instructor, a beach bum...

Some day I'll figure out what I want to be when I grow up. In the meantime, I'm building really nice kitchens and bathrooms.

I was thinking of going into the management and marketing end of my dad's fur business but he told me I would have to sit behind the machines, sewing the skins together for 12 hour days. I tried it working for a week during one summer and I got blisters on my a$$ and fur up my nose and then with some coaxing from my dad I quit. That's when I ended up going to law school. Lol

As a teen took care of 9 baseball/softball diamonds for a little league. Went to UB for Architecture and did carpentry stuff between classes and worked for a country club doing grounds work summers full time.

Worked in an Architects office wearing a suit and tie for one week and hated every minute. Quit to run a wood shop and draft plans for a design build company in the Hudson Valley.

Run my own cabinet shop on and off, and did high end installs for a large shop for a few years down in NY City.Last few years I hire out to other contractors as a specialist doing exteriors/stairs/trim/cabinet work to help their crews.
