Cuomo Wants To Shut Down Government For Gun Control

The New York Daily News quoted Cuomo saying:

If the far right is willing to shut down the government because they don’t get a tax cut for the rich, then our people should have the same resolve and threaten to shut down the government if they don’t get a real gun control law to stop killing of their innocents.

Cuomo doubled down on this demand following the heinous October 1 attack on innocents at Umpqua Community College, saying, “I’d love to see the Democrats stand up and say, ‘We’re going to shut down the federal government or threaten to shut down the government if we don’t get real gun control legislation,’”

According to The Hill, Cuomo stressed that this government shut down for gun control ought to be a “high priority.”

He added:

I would like to see Hillary and the vice president and whoever else is in the race from both parties talk about the issue of guns. Rather than the political blather that is now going on, let’s put some real issues on the agenda and let’s put at the top: What are you doing to about guns? Let’s have that be one of the top priorities.

Cuomo signed the SAFE Act gun control package into law in January 2013. Through it, he and his fellow New York Democrats banned “high capacity” ammunition magazines and “assault weapons” while implementing universal background checks and firearm registration. Although these gun controls were passed with pledges to make New Yorkers safer, firearm-related homicides are surging in NYC–the shooting death of Carey Gabay is a case in point.

Yet Cuomo says his gun control push has not failed. Rather, he says Congress undercut him by not putting similar laws in place on the federal level.

C'mon! The "Shutdown" was shutdown last week. Not going to happen. I am not saying the NYDN is FOS, but that proposed shutdown was been in the news for a while now, and it was blocked and won't happen:

Presidential candidate and former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is calling for a a “national movement” to “stand up to the NRA and the gun lobby,” euphemisms for attacking and rolling back the Second Amendment.

Clinton acknowledged passing laws designed to chip away at the constitutional right of Americans to own firearms will be “a political mountain to climb,” but said if elected she will “never relent.”

“But you don’t get anything done in this country if you don’t start by calling it out,” Clinton said.

She then exploited the child victims of “gun violence,” in other words the victims of psychopaths, many on psychotropic drugs.

“We need to make every politician who sides with them to look into the eyes of parents whose children have been murdered and explain why they listened to the gun lobbyists instead.”

She went on to characterize the effort to hamper and eventually eliminate the Second Amendment as “constitutional.”

“There are a lot of ways for us to have constitutional, legal gun restrictions. My husband did. He passed the Brady bill, and he eliminated assault weapons for 10 years. So we’re gonna take them on. We took them on in the ’90s. We’re gonna take them on again.”

That's a great question. How do we boot him out?

There are some gun owners who only have firearms for self defense, and those people couldn't care less about hunters rights to to put food on the table. They wouldn't know a .40 from a 32 acp. 

What the hell do I know about making anyone read the fine print? Just tired of people whining and doing nothing.

 

Mike Rossi and others are trying to get a dove season here in NY. They are putting out petitions, and making a stand.

 

So if you aren't happy with things you don't like, do the same. Pitching a fit on HuntingNY.com will only get you minimal results. When will you learn this?

  Mr. Cuomo is calling on the federal government for help with the steep increase of illegal guns flowing into New York from neighboring states. Are they that ignorant ?  Another Albany failure.

I honestly think very few shooting occur just as random events. The best way to avoid being involved, IMO, is to avoid locations and time where these things a most likely to occur. 3-4 am on the streets in Brooklyn?

This has to come down to familial responsibility. If they know family members are nutso, they need to take responsibility for access to firearms. This guy had ready access to untold amounts of guns by all accounts. Of course, you will never be able to legislate for apathy or irresponsibility. This is why open carry is the only sane response to random acts.

Open carry is illegal in NYS. Wearing a t-shirt that says "I'm armed" is not. Personally I wouldn't do either, but it's an option.

They will never be satisfied until all citizens are un armed and helpless. Only the police and govt will have guns. I hope I dont live to see that day
