Been very pleased over the last few years with Heavi Mag Blends but wanted to check some others out too. Used to order Nitro Company triplex blends but Safe Act nixed that.

First up :40 lasered yards. For fun second target at lasered 65 yards Third target are Fusion at 40 yards. Not real happy with these. They ain't cheap either

Pretty impressed with XR's and the price too. Box of 10 less than Magblends and Fusions for box of 5

Remington 1187 super magnum Rhino .660 tube and Bushnell circle x optics

I made the switch to the New Winchester Longbeards myself over the Nitro company stuff. Their price and the crimps left me cold. The buffer would always leak out in my vest pockets!!!! For the money Nitro company charged for their shells, $100.00 for a box of 25, their crimping and sealing methods sure were lacking quality control!!!

You're exactly right ! I forgot about that I think I have a rattler or two thrown in my assorted ammo drawer because of that.

Winchester XR's at 40 yards produced 196 pellets in 10 inch circle

Winchester XR's at 65 yards produced 94 pellets in 10 inch circle

Fusion Blend at 40 yards a measly 64 pellets in 10 inch circle

Even at 65 yards the 4x2' board I had target taped to fell down with quite some whomp to it.

Just wanted to clarify I'd never shoot a bird at 65 yards even though my set up is fully capable. 40 max. Never shot one outside 35 yards. If he ain't that close I didn't completely fool him. Just my own personal perspective. I've had a few chess matches of coaxing him into my 35 yard rule. I've won most but lost a few too.

On a side note if you post up "golden bb shots of ungodly ranges " on Oldgobbler it gets deleted and you may even get banned.

I also use Winchester longbeards. I tend to favor #5s and pack 7 for each hunt as I am seeing a ton of coyotes.

It's no wonder you only had a jam packed room filled with FIVE turn out for your big "turkey hunting" seminar Bill.

Damn dude..., why wait till May 1'st with that attitude... kill 'em NOW with all your queebs and quavers!

I can't imagine you would be happy to hear coyote hunters dumping your beloved turkey out of season now would you... so why would you take away from another outdoorsmans  season?

Play by the rules poacher, or don't play at all.

Not good when a guy like you is introducing new hunters by your own self serving standards.

You make me wanna PUKE somedays until I realize how few your message actually reaches.

Back on topic...

Sis is coming up to pattern her gun in the morning. I don't have any of those fancy targets, but I'm sure we'll come up with something.

I don't think I've EVER seen results like that out of any of my best turkey guns over the years, but the birds continue to die when they make a mistake within range.

I tried the XR's last year and was extremely impressed! Now if they would only come out with them for a 20ga!

On a side note I was plowing a field a few years ago around the end of May and was going along a

Hedgerow and smelled this terrible smell so I got off the tractor and started looking and came up on a coyote that had been shot with what appeared to be a shot gun as it had some terrible holes on its side behind the shoulder. The poor bastard wasn't even dead yet. After seeing that there is NO way I would consider shooting a coyote with a turkey load! Even if it was legal

Also hoping for XR's for my daughters 20 gauge. Another forum is all hot on them coming out. Here's to hoping

I haven't carried a 12ga for turkey in better than 5 years and don't think I will ever again. I love heavy shot but would love a cheaper alternative if it compares in performance.

Turkey feathers, very nice patterns, I myself switched to 3-1/2" Longbeards last year only to switch back. They were actually too tight for my liking in my 3-1/2" gun. This spring I've been running em through an Ithaca turkeyslayer and I love the patterns. Very dense n consistant both through a .675 factory briley choke and an Indian Creek .665. Great loads.

Want to commend you for mentioning patterning n shooting at birds are two different things n while a gun may pattern further ethical hunters prefer closer shots.

Will be headed out this afternoon to pattern my gun. Will be using those same XR's as you except in #4's. Going to try to see what they will do

out of a new choke tube at 30-40-50 yards. Winchester 1300 with a 3" chamber and a Pattermaster code black .665 choke tube.

I love the longbeard xr #4s out of my 535. i have the same pattern as you at 65 yards. Picked up a box for my old mans 3" turkey gun and shot that yesterday. They seem to be an amazing shell. Have yet to kill a bird with them yet, but i expect good results.

All longbeard xr shells:

1st pic my 3.5" #4 @ 30 yrd

2nd pic my 3.5" #4 @ 65 yards

3rd pic Dads 3" #5 @ 25 yards
