Well I got down a little early and still hunted my way back to the truck. I saw 2 going to my stand, 1 while in the stand, and 3 on the way out. I could've shot 5/6 of them. One was a big doe and only 100yds from the truck, I was in full snow camo and she let me walk 35-40 yds away right by her and she never moved, I put the cross hairs on her 3 times but never pulled the trigger, I'm not even sure why I didn't honestly. Just doesn't feel the same with a gun I guess...

Im so thankful!

My folks just arrived and are visiting for a month.  They rented a house on Skaneateles so we have 2 lakes covered.

Anyway besides the frequent mom made meals and dad drywalling jobs my folks have given me off of my full time job (dad duty for 2 under 5) to hunt as my heart desires the rest of the season.

I will be out nearly every day for the next month.

My dad also surprised me with this which I will be putting to good use on some short yardage stands next season:

Back at car. Things to do and can hunt all day tomorrow. Took a slow walk thru the white pines as I normally don't. Wind was perfect and snow was quiet. Hoping to bump one off a bed. No go on the deer sign but 5-6 coyotes had worked in there and recent. They had coyote trails. Went in with ML slung on shoulder and hand to hand hoping to see those stink dogs. 6 coyotes and 1 for each of them. No go 61371aba836db12c061a05022a8ef1b6.jpg&key=fcd0c21ecc68d747d8459e26e7e0cc5949f50e3a0edb97ffdd10f564de604338

Got I done today in NW 8J with my Savage Model 99 chambered in 300savage. A nice 7 pt, when I saw him from my tree stand and knew he wasn't coming my way I had to get down got low and behind him and waited till he came back out of the thicket. That was about 4:20 got him dressed and dragged him through about 12" of snow about a 1/2 mile out to the closest road and called my brother to come pick me up. Better then last year when I didn't even get a chance to raise my gun at anything.

Congrats to everyone with deer down!

Didn't make it out today. Did make it to dicks to pick up a ML though. Stainless CVA wolf topped with a Vortex 4-12x44. Hoping to get some time tomorrow to get it sighted in so I can finish out Ny seasons here with it and then take it to Ohio in January for late ML season

Anyone possibly know where I could pick up a black horn 209 breech plug for this thing locally? Albany area

Nice! Mine came with the Konus scope but I just don't trust scope packages anymore after previous bad experiences. So I didn't even bother messing around and bought the Vortex separate to put on there. Hard to tell how good the glass is inside my buddies house where I mounted it but it looks nice. First Vortex product I've tried. Hoping it surprises me as I'm usually a Leupold only guy.

My only dilemma now is going to be finding out if the regular breech plug will fire the blackhorn 209 powder. I'm going to order the special bh209 breech plug but it's gonna be a couple days until it gets here. I'm impatient and want to shoot tomorrow haha. I could just go with regular pellets but I already have a bottle of blackhorn from last January when I took my old mans TC encore to Ohio. So I'd kinda like to just stick with it and use the powder I have on hand.

I'm sure the vortex is a better scope. I figured yours prably came with the konus. I had never heard of konus before I bought the muzzleloader, so far I have no complaints on the konus. I have been using the triple 7 pellets so far so good. My son has the plain Jane wolf with the konus and he loves it.

Glad to hear the cvas are working good for you. I hope mine provides years of reliable service. I hemmed and hawed for a few days over the scope. But I kept coming back to the memory of doing this the last time I bought a gun with a scope package. And I kicked myself in the ass back then. So I figured I'd better just pony up for a better scope. I'm sure 99.9% of the konus scopes are great. But I'm THAT guy who always gets screwed with the .01%. If I didn't have bad luck, I'd have no luck at all.

Heading down in a bit for a quick sit .

Moog you can come back when we get a heavy snow, I'll need someone to break a trail in ....

See Moog walked out for coffee and walked by a trail cam. 3 weeks later I see a pic of a hunter by himself , don't recognize him and I freak out, wtf who is this ? I even text the farmer as well.

Moogs looking down at his phone and is having a Bad hair day as he walks by alone .

then I realize who it is and feel like a dummy .

Rockspec only wish more were moving last night .

I'll request to be invited again the day after Moog.  He can break the trail in and I won't be walking through thigh high snow.

As far as deer moving, I saw a few and that is always cool for me no matter what they are and if a shot is presented.  Thanks again!

      Hi Everyone,
It is current the last week for regular season in upstate NY. Living the life working and being a full time student, I have some time off this week and would like to take a ride upstate to do a gun hunt. Never have I hunted public land in the areas 3 G, F, or N and was looking for some recommendations and help! I had used the DEC info locator and found California Hill and thought I might go there. Is there any recommendations on areas to go to in any of the wmu’s? Or on California? Any help would be really appreciated!!

      best of holiday wishes!

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      Hi Everyone,
My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!
