Had a yearling four point come by at 9:15, couldn't get a shot and probably wouldn't have anyway. Stuck his nose is a freshly made scrape & kept going. Found 4 new scrapes since Monday. Funny part is there are 5 scrapes right in the general area and 4 of them do not have a overhead branch. Going to set a camera this afternoon when I go back out  on the latest scrape line and see what develops.

is it possible the scrapes without overhead branch are  from turkey?

Not these....there are distinct antler marks in the dirt on all of them so I know they are not does, or turkeys. The first one I found I thought it may have been a attempt of another hunter to make a mock crape. I covered it up with leaves twice and both times it has been dug out again. With each dig out it gets bigger & bigger and you can see the tine marks in the dirt. I doubt a turkey would scratch in the exact same spot twice.

I've never heard of tine marks in a scrape, that's pretty cool. Trying to get a closer wiff maybe?

My spot is tore up with tracks, nothing this morning decided to donate itself to my freezer. I did pull my card under it and I've had a lot of action the past 3 weeks. Several bucks just started popping up the last 7 days, including the 12pt. I'll post up some pics later. Back to the tree...

I don't think I've ever heard of them using their tines. I think that guy might be confused with their hooves causing they narrow drag marks in the dirt that he's seeing. Most likely the toe of their hoof doing it, it is kinda pointy like a tine.

I know I pizzed off  at least one hunter and probably more...but hey I have things to do..The neighbor has someone hunting their land that's a first...and they were parked at the end of their lane away along our east border(pumpkin, hemp plot) Well I said this am I needed to get the blower out when I was on stand...today was a perfect day because the coming rain will wet down every thing I blow to the side and a few spots were buried WR plots. I worked form 11 until now and the car was gone when I came out...Hey... they have 100 acres..any ways...I opened the plots and did 3/4 of a mile worth of trail.s my back and knees couldn't take any more..that pack blower is heavy!I opened up trails to10 stands and 4 blinds...I have another mile and a 1/4 to get done...phew...

BTW I walked those trails to go back to Gator for fuel refill....So dang great...not a sound...and I make them wide enough for the Gator so when leafs fall the wind naturally clears them

And you wonder why you have bad relations.

I have good relations with that neighbor ..in fact I spent the morning looking for their cat...stop speaking when you know nothing... BTW I'm thinking you own no land...I do not put my scheduled around what someone else is doing one their land..and sweety...... I am sure you wouldn't either. No matter how hard you try to say you would...

So if you have nothing decent to say to me ...And you've made that painfully clear just stay away from my post and keep your opinions to your self..your a trouble maker and stalker.

ADK.....This ain't my first rodeo. I don't comment on things I do not know about.

Please read the following partial article:

Deer Scrapes & Rubs - Reading Deer Sign Part 2

Part II of our series of three articles regarding how to read deer sign, focuses on "scrapes & rubs." Deer "scrape" the ground with their hooves- - and at times will do so with their antlers. The scrapes will range from the size of a dinner plate to that of a child's portable swimming pool. Put money on the fact that if you find a swimming pool sized scrape, you've either got one huge trophy buck, or it's a "community scrape," where all the deer are together. That type of community scrape usually means younger, or immature bucks. A mature buck will normally stay to himself and scrape distinct areas to announce his presence and mark his territory.

I have seen it MANY times over the years

Pretty sure you can't regulate what I can and can't post on a public forum, "sweety"

Just letting you know what goes around comes around, including your nasty comments in the past. I've made my point, no matter how you lie and say you have good relations, we all know you have problems with every hunter that is around you. You're lucky someone didn't call the DEC on you for interfering with their hunt.

I'm done playing with you Shawnhu I'll just ask John to talk to you...your not worth my bother...Stalkers never are.

Please note  It is he that follows my post around making nasty comments...he has posted many places and you do not see me doing that to him.....In fact I believe I've like a few...So before this goes any farther ,like the last time he started this, I'll just report him and be done with it..I believe there are stalking rules...

One last thing I was on stand when I publicly said I was going to clear my trails...and I had NO idea they would be hunting ,SOMEWHERE on that bordering 100 acres..I ALSO clear my trails 2x's every single year... I talk about it here..You have absolutely no idea of what your talking about...

      Hi Everyone,
It is current the last week for regular season in upstate NY. Living the life working and being a full time student, I have some time off this week and would like to take a ride upstate to do a gun hunt. Never have I hunted public land in the areas 3 G, F, or N and was looking for some recommendations and help! I had used the DEC info locator and found California Hill and thought I might go there. Is there any recommendations on areas to go to in any of the wmu’s? Or on California? Any help would be really appreciated!!

      best of holiday wishes!

Hello everyone I’m currently looking at a house in deposit ny I’ve been deer hunting for many year mainly in Columbia and Greene county never been to Broome county. Before anything I was just curious how is the hunting there ? I know there aren’t any antlered restrictions in Broome but are there monsters out there or is it mainly just small spike? If anyone from that county or knows about deposit and broome county would get back to me i would appreciate it. Hope everyone hunting today catch a big one thanks.

The procedure below to carry the bow is detailed below:
You have to use a cotton towel or something similar. You have to wrap it around the bowstring. Doing so ensures that it will not cause an injury with the bowstring coming in contact with your body. It will not be that sharp either. Once you cover the bowstring with the towel, you have to wear it like a sling. So that it will not fall away from your body. The best way to cover the bowstring is to use a large enough towel. You can wrap it around twice as well. When making a sling out of the cotton towel, you have to ensure that you tighten it to get a snug fit. In that case, it will not slip away. Consequently, it will remain in place. When using this technique to carry a bow on your back, it is essential to practice before going in the wilderness. Only when you can move briskly and without noise using the scanning mechanism should you go ahead with it. To remove the bow, you have to hold it at the bottom. After that, you have to slip it over your head as well as arm. Doing so ensures that you can remove it quickly. When trying to focus on a prey, you need to remove the bow quickly. The technique for removal that we have highlighted above can certainly help you do so.

I'm new to the area and looking for some places to hunt  the next few weekends through bow/muzzleloader season. I'm living in New Paltz, and the place that seems the most promising to me so far is Vernooy Kill State forrest, and north into Sundown. Has anyone had any luck in these areas? Is there anywhere better in the area I should check out? Any info is welcome

      Hi Everyone,
My name is Raul and I am a new hunter! I've been hunting public land for now, but have been suffering. I've done 2 10 hour sits at Kings Park and 3 10 hour sits at Rocky Point and haven't seen one deer. I use a treestand and use scent blocker. I also get there super early in the morning. I need help! I plan to go again this friday. I scouted Rocky point after the first day and always see sign and I try to hunt the areas, but no success. I hunt around 42 and 36 I think. If someone wants the exact spot I can send them it on a map. I am really just looking for help in any areas and everything. I have put so much effort yet all i want is to just see one that will keep moral up. Any help is really appreciated!
