Too early for cereal grains?

Recommended Posts

Is it too early to plant oats or wheat?

I have a reclaimed lawn I rototilled in november.

My goto plot is wheat oats and clover, but planted on recently logged spots in august.  This spot needs more work for the fall, but will add clover if it's doing well and I want to keep it.

Could only rototill to 3 inches.  Sod was thick and soil was moist.

I see temp down to 30 this weekend.

depends on the purpose of those grains?  if you are doing it for a plow down, than it's fine in my book.  If you are doing it for fall attraction than I say no.  if its for your front lawn and you want grass than don't plant cereal grains plant grass.

When I came home with the oats, the asnwer presented itself........   Galf of the food plot is under 3 inches of water.   This summer I am going to use the tractor to clear some drainage channels.

If the puddles dont settle down in a week or two,  I will plant in the higher spots.  This is a old apple orchard converted to lawn.   The tree rows are maybe a foot higher.
