9/23: Checking cams at both 3N and 3S (Westchester) spots later today for final inventory to decide where I am headed on 10/1, 10/2, and 10/3

Checked cams today, I’ll start with 3S (Westchester- Bow only). nothing bigger than the same 4pt I always get pics of. Several does, but I did come across a nice big buck rub that I’m hoping is from a bigger buck. I also took 3 shots with broadheads from my perched spot on some rocks. it’s about 15 feet higher than surrounding land. Shot 24, 28, and 32 yd shots. The 32 was the furthest I ever took. I aimed a little high and lobbed right in, still a little higher than expected but maybe since I’m shooting like a cheating treestand guy up 15’ essentially. Anyway, now I got confidence at that distance.








You can see white target at base of old treestand.



Next post will be 3N report, which is where I will be opening day.

3N cams, loaded with groups of does. No yotes no Fox. Several bucks. Lots of pics of 5pt and 8pt I’ve had all summer long. In one pic they are eating together and next they are fighting. First sparring pic I ever got. Throw and grow plots going strong, as are the acorns. I’ll be here on 10/1-10/3 for sure. Pretty confident the 5pt and 8pt are both older than 1.5’s. 3 cams spread out across 400yds. These bucks are on each of them.

Forgot to say I jumped a buck walking. Super crunchy and I couldnt sneak closer for a pic. Definitely a 4pt, maybe 5 or 6

So I did a full analysis. I got the same 8pt at the following dates/times in September. Where to sit opening morning on 10/1 is the big question.

• 9/5 8:21am at upper burlap blind
• 9/6 4:35pm at upper burlap blind
• 9/7 5:07pm at upper burlap blind
• 9/9 7:16am at Acorn Flat blind
• 9/13 3:54pm at lower burlap blind
• 9/19 5:37pm at upper burlap blind (with the big 5pt. and sparring)
• 9/22 6:37pm at lower burlap blind

upper seems to have the best odds, but wind direction would have to be the deciding factor for me....just out of curiosity, how close to the blind does he pass?

Maybe do a weather check on the temps for those days and see if anything makes sence.

That upper burlap blind which I posted a pic of, the camera is like 7-8yds from it. So he's usually like 10-15 yds from that burlap blind. The acorn flat actual ground blind has a wide area of 10-30yds shot openings, while he was only there on 9/9 I have to believe he was there more often just not caught on cam. That cam is 25yds to the left when looking out the blind window. Last year when I shot big 4 from there and saw 3 does, none of the 4 deer were caught on cam but all were within 20 yds. That spot has the most acorns and best growing throw and grow clover.

The lower burlap blind is a hike and would be loud in the dark, so maybe better just for afternoon. That one is 15-20yds from blind.

hunting from the ground, I would personally use the blind that conceals my movement the best....but on a limited schedule of days to hunt, I would go with most consistent sightings.

Yea, it's tough. Definitely "upper" portion of land at burlap or actual ground blind in acorn flat for the morning and then check cams and move or don't move for rest of day.

I say go to the burlap blind since you have seen him there the most. I'm sure they'll start going to the acorn flat most often. I guess wind will have to be the main determinant for where you go

The burlap upper blind and acorn flat blind are only like 200yds apart. I really think they are going to acorn flat just as much but haven’t been caught on cam. I think this is where I will go. Had good luck there opening day 11/5 with xbow last year so I’ll try it again. Last year’s buck pics in early October were here. Here’s an example of an 8pt last year in acorn flat on 10/1

Red oak? Too dark to be white oak. I'm not a pro on tree identification but I know reds are dark like that

Thanks, and what is your/anyone's guess on the age of the 8pt? Clearly not a 1.5 for my area. The pic on 9/5 at 821am gives a clear picture of his body.

I'd say 2.5-3 but more likely 2.5. Has a lot of young buck look to him
