Bow Hunting on Long Island

I'm from Farmingdale and looking to get into bowhunting. Have some friends out east on the island that I can practice archery with (borrow their equipment).

Not planning on doing anything until I'm experienced enough, and only plan on hunting small game in the future (namely rabbits).

My question is how to get my license. Is it hard? Also any other suggestions?

not hard you just have to devote time to get it use to be you had to take a class over the weekend you still can but its alot easier on line check out the d.e.c. site they'll tell you how to do it. theres alot of land on long island to hunt but its a little complicated. usselly they hunt rabbits and pheasants out there with a shotgun and deer with a bow. ihave a bow ready to hunt for sale a compound bow set up for deer i'm in queens

Is it still possible and allowed to shoot rabbit with a bow? Has anyone ever tried to?

it's legal once you get a small game license  and bow stamp. not trying to discourage you but I've hunted long island state land for 30+ years and can count the rabbits I've seen on one hand and those where kicked up when I was walking in, but if you know someone with a farm it might be doable.

here's a few links to get you started:

you need to take a hunter safety course to get your license:
