The earlier/ darker, the less likely to spook something out of the area going in.

Alas more likely to be spooked yourself by some scary monster that lives in the dark woods. It's always super sketch walking to my stands in the pitch black

In Westchester? Lol. You know at most you are a few hundred yards from a house.

I got a good 1/2 mike walk in 3N. I find it relaxing. Eyes adjust quick and don’t even need flashlight. Just have it on so I don’t get shot lol

For me it’s in the stand and ready 30 min before sunrise. If I hunt my one stand that 3/4 of a mile walk I start walking an hour before sunrise.

That’s mostly for bow season. Gun season after opening weekend I’m much more relaxed on when I start

During bow, Ill get there an hour before it starts getting light, by the time I get to most of my stands and settled in, Im there for 20-30 mins before it gets light. During the first part of gun season, Ill use the same approach for most stands. I have other stands though, that I will wait until shooting light to walk in so that I can still hunt my way to the stand. Ive taken a few deer over the years doing this.
