growalot
Do Not Return to the area until you know DEC resolved the problem especially with a shovel or weapon in hand...
TACC
Lol... Thanks Steve. Trust me very much, he got every mental middle finger and swear word from both me AND my fiancé. He told me if he caught me on forest property, I'd have my weapon seized and be cited for hunting a bait pile. I would call a supervisor and explain the situation, and then advise who you spoke with and then relay what he said to you and ask him if that's how he expects to get a better relationship between legal hunters and the DECSent from my SM-G900T3 using Tapatalk

Spook
Growalot - I'm like omg that idea the most. Albany was on my checklist but not in that order. I like ur idea. As far as the conversation went, I told him that my fiancé could hear every word and that he was being rude and he shit back with "I don't care who she is or where she is." Lit her right up I'll tell yah. Biggame - Don't yah love that rule.... as long as a single person in a two person conversation, it can legally be recorded. I guess if you(I) can stay calm it's beneficial. Turkey - I was pondering that. He threw out the word investigation. I'm curious to know if he could pull a ticket or arrest out of his rear saying I hindered an ongoing investigation. He most certainly didn't do anything to fix it. He took the rooting coat and left it right in the middle of the parking area. I'd love to bag the licks, corn, and hide and deliver it to the barracks for him. The voices instead my head are screaming bad idea though lol. I really do appreciate all the info and suggestions. Keep em coming. I'll keep you guys updated as the day(s) go on. Spook
Helmut - I really truly don't wanna poke the bear let along the poppa bear BUT he Is supposed to be held at a higher standard. Very disrespectful to my fiancé and myself. When I took my oath years ago.... I vowed to protect and serve. I believe in the badge. I believe in protecting the environment and it's game and the people(hunters) who use it.
Salmon_Run
The only true result you will get is to seek out his Lieutenant and have them involved with the whole issue. I bet if he was so disrespectful to you it isn't his first issue with that and his supervisor needs to be informed and have faith they will handle it properly. No LE supervisor or administrator can solve problem employees if they are unaware or if it goes undocumented. Reporting and documentation are needed for any disciplinary action against an employee. The public can't expect supervisors to "just know" or "fire him" without the proper steps taken. That all starts by a citizen bringing the complaint to his Lieutenant. Hope this all helps.....sad but we only hear of the few screw ups out there and not the ones who faithfully and diligently do their jobs every day.. NFA-ADK
Document everything! We have some really good ECO and DEC in NY most are outstanding officers only interested in preserving and protecting our resources. E-mail is a great way to document and protect yourself. Personally I would stay away from that area, good luck hope you get some resolve.

Something is very off here, and he was way over the line. He needs a good whipping from his superiors, and I also like grows idea of going right to the top and call Albany as well.
Adkhunter1590
I've come across my fair share of ECOs and will sadly say that only a couple of them were decent guys who had common sense and were respectful human beings. When I was out west I was in contact with ECOs way more often and never met a bad one out there. It's something about NY ECOs I'm telling ya. Ran into a ECO back in youth turkey season up at some state land close to my house and he was the typical standoffish prick that most of them are. Gave me a bad attitude about what I was doing and who was hunting. It's like these guys are convinced every hunter is doing something wrong before even finding out. While fishing up on lake Champlain back in June me and my buddy were stalked by DEC for a good 2 hours before they pulled us over to check licenses. We were legal all the way around but they tore my buddy's boat apart looking for anything possible to ticket us for. I can understand needing to follow the rules and that they need to check, but they didn't need to be so damn rude and nasty about it. Those guys have a awesome job, I have never understood why they could be so damn miserable.
growalot
John Hill..only descent one I have had deer season and dog. Issues with...then a couple of hazmat specialist. A region 7 and 9 guys..I had to call because the.8 was useless. Sorry but truth. John I think retired Oh and a Forrester in 8 but he retired too. Ps...I will add this though ......8 officer well I'm responsible from middle of lake Onterio to the PA border..Now if you look at the list of officers per region as listed in your hunting manuals.I can see why some regions might have tense officers. Most state offices are that way now. Saw on news that Cuomo sent 30 of them to California to help with wildfires begining of this week. Doc
I know that it just isn't right the way that he treated you, and nobody likes any form of abuse of power, but I would let myself cool down a bit before taking any action and ask yourself a question about whether you really want to make an enemy of a law enforcement officer of the DEC. That is one of the most far reaching legal arms in the whole realm of law enforcement. To me it doesn't sound like this guy is completely mentally stable. Take it as far as you want to, but understand that he has resources that you don't, and give it lots of thought.
BigVal
Only experience I've had with an Eco was him telling me that I'm mistaken about the neighbors poaching deer, I said ok that makes sense given all your knowledge. Definitely won't call again. With that said Eco is my dream job.
E J
I once schooled a DEC officer on the legalities of your regular season buck tag during muzzleloader season. He was pissed, mostly because I did it in front of an audience I think. He told me to watch out because he would find me somewhere sometime doing something wrong. My reply was.... Good luck! Spook
As a kid (from age 5 to aprox age 11) while going to the state fair in Syracuse, the highlight of my fair trip was going to the DEC building to look at all the fish and exhibits. Right after the building, I would make my grandparents take me to the outside building to get a pine sapling to plant at home. 30 years later, those saplings stand about 7 or 8 feet high. When age 11 came around, I took my hunter safety in Utica NY and waited until age 12 just to go to the state fair DEC building to get my 1st small game stamp and back tag. Still have the tag and stamp til this day. Around age 21, I took the DEC exam and received a 97 but didn't go to academy due to family reasons. Long story short..... DEC was also my dream job and I can't rationalize this guys attitude and lack of judgement. Makes me sick to my stomach. I definitely feel yah Val. JRod 8G8H
so you think somebody was poaching and baiting? Youth gun season, or is Oct 2 too early for that where you are?? Sounds like he knows what goes on and is trying to keep any bad publicity out of his area? Very strange...
Spook
Bait and blind was not there on Oct 2. Bow opened in the south on the Oct 1. Pile showed up on Oct 6 with a blind and a fresh gut pile and skin not far away. ECO went ballistic when I stated this to him. He claimed blind has always been there and he's been investigating it for 4 years. I politely told him he was wrong and he fired back. I explained that I have pics of a passing doe from the 2nd that clearly shows no blind. After that he became very threatening and started saying I put it up, am growing pot, he's got me on video for the last 4 years (mind you this is my 1st year hunting this area), etc..... At that point I asked for supervisor numerous times and he refused. He told me he wanted me to meet him. I said fine.... with a supervisor present. A lot more small talk and this and that's.....
