Reason for season window?

Sorry if this is a dead horse being beaten but I haven't been on this section of the forum here.

Is there an offical/biological reason that NY and NJ turkey seasons are as "early" as they are? In previous years when I came out of a public mountain trying to get a deer with gun, I'd see at least a dozen trying to recruit my truck into their flock. The other morning I had another 8 hens blocking the road when I was trying to go to work and I was forced to shake my fist at them. Never tried to target them during their season.

what you are asking is why don't they have the fall season while it is gun season for deer too?

I don't understand the question either, but I will say that in the Southern Teir, the season used to go from October 1 until the day before rifle season opened (6 weeks), and you could kill 2 birds. This changed 2 (3?) years ago, now you are only allowed 1 bird, and the season is only 2 weeks long. The reason I was told was that there was a decline in NY turkey population, and this was going to be the "fix". Not sure I really buy into it, but that's another debate for another day....
