what is your favorite outdoor/fishing/hunting quote or saying?

Recommended Posts

a post by Lawdwaz got me thinking .... what is your favorite quote/saying?  Ive got a few but I like

FISHERMAN'S OATH

"I am a fisherman for life.

I will always be a fisherman.

It's not something I do, it is who i am.

It is not a place,

But a lifelong journey.

It is a passage my father showed me, and one I will show others.

When you understand all of this,

you will know me,

and we will fish together. "

Insert "hunt" for "fish" also works!

Behold the fisherman.

He riseth up early in the morning
and disturbeth the whole household.

Mighty are his preparations.

He goeth forth full of hope,
returning when the day is far spent;

smelling of strong drink
and the truth is not in him.

My dad would always say if someone missed a deer

there’s more room around them

then on them

I was on a deer drive once with an old Polish guy who was missing a leg. He shot a three legged deer. True story

One of my mentors, an old farmer, told me, "if ya pay attention, the deer will teach ya more than I ever can".

“In a civilized and cultivated country, wild animals only continue to exist at all when preserved by sportsmen.” -Theodore Roosevelt

"0 Lord, I am a hunter
And life I seek to take
But let me not attempt the shot
Beyond my skill to make
For Lord they are your creatures
Given for our use
But each one falls within your sight
They're not for our abuse
And when I loose my arrow
Please guide it swift and true
Or let it miss completely, Lord
That pain be not undue
A clean kill or no kill, Lord
Such is my heart's desire
Give me the skill to make it so
Or let me hold my fire
And when my time upon this earth
The days they are fulfilled
Grant that I may die at least
As clean as those I killed" - bowhunter prayer

...less serious.
my cousin: "i can't believe i missed that big buck! he was so close i didn't even need to use the pins!"
"this is what happened. i bared down on him and to get crosshairs real steady.  ....but my elbow layed right into the [car] horn."

Better to pick the right tree to get a deer that you might see

Then be in a tree and see a deer that you only may only get

I've hunted almost everyday of my life.. the rest have been wasted!

“I hunt because I love the entire process: the preparations, the excitement, and sustained suspense of trying to match my woodslore against the finely honed instincts of these creatures. On most days spent in the woods, I come home with an honestly earned feeling that something good has taken place. It makes no difference whether or not I got anything: it has to do with how the day was spent.”

This is an easy one for me....From Tom Kelly's " The Tenth Legion", regarding turkey hunting..

" If you persevere, you will eventually kill a few turkeys that you do not deserve....However, if that same time, you will DESERVE a lot more turkeys that you do not kill.."

Or words to that effect.....hehehe....Truer words have never been spoken....

River Run Through it:
The Lord has blessed us all today...it’s just that he’s been particularly good to me!
(I’m usually on the listening end of that quote by the way!)

“Buck/Dow down...bring the sled!”
That’s the first text sent from my buddy or myself when success comes our way.

How about my wifes ::

Why in the world would anyone get up so early and go out in the pitch dark and sit in a tree in the freezing cold..

As I get older and sit in that tree I sometimes wonder myself,,, but would never admit she may be right “AGAIN” :)
