Well check off another thing that is done for the hunting season, should have been done before now  . Super redhawk is sighted in finally with the new Leupold. First photo is 50 yards wrists on a rest second 75 yard wrists rested, that lower right one in the target was all me . The gun sure does like the 270 grain deep curls , and I’m getting used to the scope float  .

Joe and I shot our hunting rifles today at my range . A little scope adjustment and things are dialed in well . Then blasted a few boxes worth of handgun ammo . No pictures as cameras aren’t allowed on the Webster Militia Proving Grounds .

Playing with the revolvers  trying to decide which one gets the nod .

Toss up between the 480 ruger and 44 mag at the moment.

41 mag has to goto a smith as it locked up on me twice  . Have no clue why .. Will take it down and give it a good cleaning . Im betting I have a broken or week spring .

Love the Bisley, for me the Bisley style grip has about as good a feel and natural pointing characteristics as one can get with a handgun. Good luck on your hunt.

Al

I have a blued 4 5/8" barrel Ruger Flat Top 44 special Bisley I'm going to sell one of these days.  LOL, I just don't see myself spending any time shooting it and certainly not hunting with it.  Just no real interest.  It feels good in hand and sure is a well built gun.

This is still cheaper than therapy.

The first target is the .380 from 10 feet and the second is the 9mm from 10 yards. With the 9mm I’m definitely gripping way to hard causing the high right shots. When I was able to just have a firm but relaxed grip I did much better accuracy wise.

Between all three guns I probably sent 500 rounds down range.

How do you like the sr9? I've yet to have any issues with mine With over 10k rounds.

Love it! It’s just a smooth shooting gun and accurate when I can do my part. Helps that she’s awfully pretty as well.

I should have taken pics . We went shooting at my range , I asked my buddy to bring his 12ga Mossberg Shockwave ,stock photo below , as I was toying with the idea that it might make a nice truck gun .

The recoil wasn’t that bad with 00 buck, but it’s pretty hard to hit much hip shooting , anything fairly close is easy to miss as the load just doesn’t open up much at those distances, and there’s no way to aim the thing , without risking hitting your face ….. I’ll stick with my 18 inch Benelli with stock . Shockwave is stockless and 14 inch barrel.

Lesson #2 Steel case Russian ammo sucks when not fired in a AK47 , my other buddy sold his AK ( as it was far from compliant,  bump stock and all ) and got a mini 14 , the AK ate up that ammo the Mini14 fired about 3 out of 4 , those commie primers are hard ! Now he’s stuck with 1000 rounds of it ,which 750 will fire in practice lol .

Might be hunting a shotgun area for the early season hunt, so I made sure I could hit a fat doe-sized cardboard box.    Not too bad for sluggers!  Followed up by a crisp Busch apple.

That’s something I got to get done over the next few weeks.  I received a new field car today (traded a buddy my old camper for it).  The first thing I did with it, was see how it did on the trails back to the range.  The Durango all wheel drive suv did very well.

It has a much better suspension than the tractors I have been using to get back there the last few years.  There is lots of cargo room with both rows of back seats folded down.

I may take (7) guns back there next time.  I will start with my Ithaca 16 gauge, which also uses Remington sluggers (I bought a case of them for $1 a box when a sporting goods store in Brewerton had a going out of business sale about 21 years ago). I am still very well stocked with those.

That gun will definitely need sighting, because I exchanged the slug  barrel with a bird barrel, for spring turkey season.  It has a 1.5 Weaver mounted on the receiver.  It is a smoothbore with an effective range of about 100 yards.

The next one I will check is my Marlin 512 fully rifled bolt action 12 ga.  It has an effective range closer to 200 yards (my longest deer kill with it was 163).  I am pretty well stocked with sabot ammo for it.

Those first two shotguns are scoped, so I will also bring back my open-sighted Remington 870 with short, smoothbore 12 ga barrel.  That’s my rainy day gun and it’s effective range is about 75 yards.  I am fairly well stocked with 12 ga rifled slugs, but not as well as I am with 16’s.

If I have enough time, I will add my T/C Omega ML to the mix.  I don’t expect that will need any major adjustments because it was right on the mark on a deer that I killed with it on New Year’s Day, just as it was on another, last October.

If I have time to sight in the ML, I might as well also check my Marlin 336 BL 30/30, because I will be hunting with that on the weekend after early ML week, up in the northern zone.

Guns number 6 and 7 will be my open sight Marksmen .177 pellet rife and my Ruger 10/22. I plan on bringing that pellet rifle along, as a second gun, on those September antlerless deer hunts.  Squirrels will be “targets of opportunity” on those hunts, and the relatively silent report of the pellet rifle should not spook too many deer.

I never go to the range without my 10/22, unless I don’t have room for it.  That definitely won’t be a problem with the Durango and it’s gigantic  cargo hold. Here it is, parked in front of the backstop, looking up at my 50 and 100 yard benches:

Shot my 300 Blackout today , funny part was as I was kneeing loading mags a really wide buck stepped into the beans 40 yards from me .

A bit low but I’m ok with this  , the red dot is real nice , my back up iron sights are a bit hard to see . Next time I’ll shoot through the sight without the dot on, see what just centering the target does .
